View Full Version : Riding Lawn Mower

I am looking for a used riding lawn mower (that runs). I went out of town last week, came home after it had been raining here for 3 days, and my grass was knee high (no lie). This didn't used to be a problem, but now I have my pine trees cut down, and the pool taken down, so I have extra grass to mow.
I don't want to buy a new one, because I have my house for sale. Not that it's going to sell anytime soon, but why waste the money on a new mower when I plan on living in a condo someday, ya know?
PM or text me if you know anywhere I can get a decent deal on a used mower (again, it has to run, I don't know how to work on them!).
Thanks! Hope everybody is doing well!

Yeah it's this one, it's perfect for smaller yards. our yard was just to big for it though.

We bought a Cub Cadet so we no longer need this.

That's the first place I looked. I didn't see any great deals. I'd rather buy from someone I know, that isn't going to sell me a hunk of junk I have to get fixed every time I need to mow.

I got neighbor trying to sell his, he's looking for around $700 and I think it's about a year old in perfect shape. He's going through some issues where he may not be able to drive it anymore and that's why he's selling it.

That's some tall grass. After all you aren't 4'11"!!!! LOL!!!!!!
If you are selling and assuming the house will move relatively quick, would it not be equally if not more econimical and less hastle to pay a person to mow and trim for you while it's on the market? The professional lawncare may also promote a quicker sale. Just thinking outside the box Holly. Have know idea how large the yard is which would surely be a factor in hired over buying a used rider. I have no sources on used mowers. Sorry.

I'm still rocking out my 1987 Wheel Horse with a 11hp Briggs. 4-speed on the tree.
Its the oldest mower in the neighborhood. Its the loudest also with a rusted through muffler. lol

The paint is faded, some missing from the front of the hood where it has rubbed a few trees in its day. It still keeps chugging along.
I know my neighbor behind me must hate it. He has went through like 6 riders in the time we have owned this one.
I've got an old echo weed eater that just wont give up either.
My cars keep making up for them not breaking by being needy though.

Hey Holly I will ask my dad if he has one. He bought 3 of those old Forest Gump snappers at an auction a few years back. Ugly as heck but they do work as a mini bush-hog. Had to use one the other day cause my Deere died on me :( Will see what I can do.

Is there any old guys that tinker with mowers around you ? They tend to have have a dozen mowers around and the older crowd tends to be more honest. They may not have something for you but may have a lead on one.
For an older rider, I'd recommend a John, Deere, Cub Cadet or a Wheelhorse.( before Toro bought them)

Not sure if you found anything yet. There are a couple of those snappers on CL for under 100 bucks.
Did you get one yet? I have a buddy that I have bought from in the past and I think he just got a few.

Nope - still haven't bought. It started raining for days and I forgot about it, until when I went out there and had to push mow it, the whole thing. It wasn't too awful bad because a rider had trimmed it down last week, but I don't think I can do that every week, that's hard work!
I have a push mower to trade (didn't somebody mention that?) as a partial trade. I am keeping my self propelled, the one I have I don't use was Vinnys. It worked fine, 3 summers ago, hasn't been started since. I tried mowing with it once and it flat out kicked my ass. I ran to Sears and got a self propelled key ignition start, it works awesome, but I got a lot of yard to mow. I figure I can do the back with a rider and the front with my push, but I do have the NON self propelled one to partial trade. Vinny liked that damn thing, it has the big wheels on the back.
