Sister's '91 S10 Blazer 4x4 doesn't want to shift nicely right now... ~215000 miles on the truck.

Dad thinks it sounded like the shift bands that need adjusted.

Trans was working fine in February. It gets driven, maybe 10 miles once a month, while my sister is out of State. I went to drive it this month and I had to "rev the piss out of the engine" (scientific term since there is no tach), then let off before it would shift into 2nd. Same for 3rd. Overdrive doesn't seem to kick in at all and 45-50mph is about all I want to do in it for fear of doing some engine damage.

Does anyone know anyone who does good work on the 700R4 / 4L60E ? Preferably in Dayton-area. And preferably cheap (shop rate).

you are hurting it. Need to check the TV cable at the throttle body.

The secondary cable going from the throttle body to some bellows was really loose. I firmed it up, it shifts 1-2 a little better now after warming up, but 2-3 is still bad.

BTW, this is the 4.3L vortec engine.

ETA: The bellows sounds like it might be leaking. Dunno... I don't mess with automatics. :p

Neither do I, but I know 700R4's are easy to kill if the TV is out of adjustment of left off.

Throttle valve might be jammed in the bore. The cable adjustment has made it seem better. There is a Sonnax kit it fix the bore problem in the VB, IIRC. It has been a while since I messed with one.

There really isn't a need for a tach, but the general rule is under light throttle, near grandma levels, that you should see the 1-2 shift around 15mph and the 2-3 shift about 25-30mph. OD should kick in at 45-ish with lockup occurring shortly after the 3rd and OD shift.

Grandma shift 1-2 is about right... probably a little high on the RPMs. 2-3 won't go in until I go over 30 and lift off pedal. Never went into OD at 45.

Sonnax doesn't have a kit for the 700R4.
