Grabber blue...I can take it or leave it. The stripes don't really bother me but you can always order one without them. I like the wheels just not on that car. I have always been a big fan of that style of wheel but for some reason I just don't like them on the new Mustangs. I'd rather have the standard wheels. My biggest hang up with the cars is the price. I just couldn't justify $60,000 for a toy but if I did it would be in Sterling Grey with black stripes.

For 60k you could have a loaded new c6 that will beat a Shelby at anything they want to compete at. You could have a lightly use z06 that would walk all over it for the same price. I'm a mustang fan but for 60k I'd be a vette owner.
05yellowgt
04-28-2010, 12:37 PM
Not sure how everyone can say that the 2011 GT500 will get smoked by a C6Z when nobody has tested one. The 2011 GT500 has lost weight and picked up in power and better gearing than the previous year. The aluminum block weighs about 110lbs less than the cast iron block and all of that is coming straight off the nose of the car.

04-28-2010, 12:50 PM
Over the last 20 years or so, I'm sick to fuggin death of the Mustang vs. Vette bullshit.
A Vette is a 2 SEAT SPORTS CAR. The Mustang is a 4 SEAT PONY CAR.
I would hope a sports car could hold it's own against a pony car.
This car stomps the dog shit out of any other pony car offered by any major manufacturer PERIOD.
85_SS_302_Coupe
04-28-2010, 01:01 PM
Yeah i agree, the comparison is retarded....but the reason you see it anymore is because of how much these limited production Mustangs are going for, so it becomes natural to look across the street and see a Vette for similar money and ask yourself why wouldn't i just buy that? I'll also add the price of ownership vs. a Vette is going to be a LOT less.
djom1cincy
04-28-2010, 01:03 PM
It gets compared to a vette because it has the same price tag as a vette. I don't see the other ponie cars costing 60k.
05yellowgt
04-28-2010, 01:36 PM
Well people see the HP figures and assume they are competing in the same class when they are not. Just wait and see what the price for the z/28 supercharged camaro is going to be like if it ever makes the light of day. Won't be any cheaper than a comparible GT500.

I think people say that because a 2010 Shelby was beaten in every performance category by the base C6 LS3. Losing 100 lb. is great--particularly off the nose, but no way will it run with a C6Z that is still 700lbs lighter. Frankly, i'd rather have a 3500 lb. GT with the 5.0 and modest bolt-ons. It is going to be a GREAT car.

04-28-2010, 05:07 PM
I know of more than a few people that have dreamed of owning a Vette for ages. Then they finally get one, and 8 months later it's for sale. They are a PITA to try and drive everyday. If you are a person of any size (height, and or weight), bad knee, or back, they will make you miserable in short period of time.
2 TOTALLY different cars, with 2 TOTALLY different target consumers...no matter how much HP, or price, so just please stop the Vette vs. Mustang, or Camaro, or Challenger comparisons.

change taillights back to 05 design. widen the wierd looking (looks like someone cheaped out) stripes, sorry don't like the hoopty rims, (18's are big enough), and lower the price tag 35000.00. Sorry gang, I'll keep my 05 or go back to an edge body first. Have not been impressed with Ford's design on the stang since 10. Good job on the HP increase though and returning the 5.0 liter in the GT. Now lets just get a 429 in the car like the 1969 had and add today's technology to it!!!!!

I heard they were running wide ass tires and skinnys up front. Removed the rear brakes or replaced them with something smaller to fit the bigger wheels on? I read something like this somewhere.... I need to do some research :D

The November 2009 issue of Car & Driver compared the 2010 GT 500 to the Corvette GS (same engine as the C6 but it is little heavier than the base coupe because it has the Z06 wide body, brakes and tires)
0-60 Vette 4.1 GT 500 4.5
1/4 Vette 12.5/116 GT500 12.7/115
Similar results in Road & Track, but I can't remember the issue. Same drivers same course. You may do better or worse depending on your skill as a driver, but the relative differences would remain. Don't even talk about cornering, braking or road course times. The C6 is cheaper than than the GT500.
I agree with Big Bad Stang that these are two different cars and the better comparison is the Mustang/Camaro--Mustang wins. But your statements are inaccurate.

the z shouldn't be compared anyway, a new c6z isn't the same price, it's more
you need to be comparing to a c6. this is a vert and stickers for 60k
we have a white 3lt (coupe) that stickers for 59025.
you take the vert off of the car and your going to come in around 4k less than the c6.
you've got better gearing, more power and better tires this year,
i guarantee you this car will do some running with a c6
not to mention, with the 4k in savings, spend $500 on a tune and a pulley and your about 600-625 crank hp, yeah, it's heavier, but 170-195 hp will do a lot.

I agree with you Beef, a stock 2011 GT 500 should run with a base C6. I would still give a slight edge to the Vette stock, but the GT 500 has more upside potential with a pulley. My disagreement is with 2007Shelby Cobra; he is plain wrong.
However, a 3LT is a loaded C6; isn't a 1LT C6 cheaper than a base GT 500 coupe?
