After seeing the post about the Ford GT TT, I don't think i'd have the balls to drive that car to it's full speed.

So my question to you and be truthful, how fast would you drive a street legal car. The fastest I've personally driven a vehicle was 145 in a SVO I once had. That is as fast as i'll ever go I think.

I've had my '94 GT at 140 before when I stomped a Cobalt SS... Wont do that anymore... EVERYTHING was making noise and rattling!!

That's been like 3 years ago now I think...

Agreed, I think with the right setup, like this Ford GT for example, and an open runway, it probably doesn't feel that unstable.

I've been up to about 155 pre-supercharger but only 145 post supercharger. I'd have fun taking my car to one of these mile events. Just wish they weren't so far away. I don't think I'd have a problem cruising at 150 or so if we had an autobahn here. Just make it harder to get a license to drive and have vehicle requirements so Jerk off Jimmy doesn't bring his 99 Cavalier with a fart can and Erector Set wing on the same roads and cause a wreck.

145 in, of all things, a Probe GT.

It is a lot easier said than done, I think I would be ok up to 200ish, but 200+ is getting wild! its a pretty controlled environment though and a well built car.

I think at a place like Bonneville where you didn't have a true reference for speed, That it wouldn't matter !!! Like the Joker said" If you gotta go, Go with a SMILE " !!! LMAO

I had a 96 cobra to 156 before I shut it down... I might take the GT to the salt flats and let her rip.

had my cobra to 176.... that is estimated since speedo stops at 160. The shift light came on in 5th gear and I thought about shifting to 6th, but didn't want to overheat and blow it..... car was as smooth as could be though.....

It is true that when slowing down from a high speed run it feels like you are crawling along when you are still doing 70....

130 in a Subaru WRX. Ran out of road, and it was smooth.

Rolled at 115mph on cruise control for about an hour on my way to California. Hit 150mph on my bike once too. Top speed driving is scary because one mistake and it could be deadly!

150 in my old mach. About the same in the cobra with the top down. 170 on a bike. I've always had a thing for going fast. If I had the chance I'd jump all over going 250 plus. As stated before. After going so fast 70 mph does feel like your walking.

Yeah man at 110 at the top of 4th gear my car is so loud and shaking so bad...not like a violent shake but vibrations. It's like you can feel the car begging for mercy.

Oh and i would go as fast as possible in a purpose built car on the salt flats. Bring it on.

145-150 in my old Honda, I've ridden to 160+ when I was a kid, but have a desire to get into the 200 mph club.

Mrs. Orcutt's driveway anyone?

ive been 165 "pretty much a walk in the park" and ive drove 140, you just hear wind noise and wait to shift, my car felt stable, but lane changing is very bumpy at high speeds

I went 140. It was daylight, dry, empty, and a dead 3 mile strightaway. I will never do it agian on the streets.

After reading about the 82 Trans Am that was modified by Gale Banks for a magazine, able to pull 1g skidpad, which was a HUGE deal for a street car almost 30 years ago and then run 200 mph on the driveway I listed above.

I was only 15-16 at the time and that story influence me playing with gearing for top speed and such.

To me, I like feeling acceleration and the tourqe better than going 180 or triple digits. Thats just me though.

Ive had the mustang to 140 about 12-13 years ago, trapped 130 about 2 years ago, and had the bike to 155.

Consistently 150 on the back straight at Mid-Ohio - car actually felt quite stable (of course the immense braking before the right hand turn makes your ass pucker - else hello China Beach!)

I would stand in line to take a launch in that missle!

That's me all the way. I can stay well under 100mph as long as i can pull up to that speed as brutally fast as possible.

Back in 05 me and my stepdad had his kennebell'd cobra 03 cobra up to about 170-ish on 275 on the way home from a sbz meet racing an old ass vette lol. The fastest I've had my cobra up to is 135 on 129 that's the top of 4th, 5th gear with this tranny I have(straight cut g-force t-5) is pretty much useless.

160 in the evo was supper smooth for about 5 miles. 170 on the bike for about 15 miles one night. . . Trying to break the governor I didn't know it had lol. If the cars built for it it can be supper smooth but my old bullitt at 140 felt scary

157 on I64 West bound just east of Evansville about 12 years ago in a 1993 Z28. Younger cousin said, "Will it bury the speedo?" There was NOOOOOBODY out there. Looked like east Texas, so I said,"Let's find out." Speedo went to 155 and I was just passed that mark when I let off the go pedal. Amazing how those white lines begin to close in on you.

As far as this TT GT. Give me a open legal runway and I'll take it to the limit. Last I heard the first GT's were top end capable of 208 according to Motortrend and Car and Driver. Can't remember the article. Wide open, flat, and no worry about cops, sure let me at it. Not trying to be macho, I just love going fast and have only been worried over the years of the 30 days in jail and the fines if ever was caught. Life ends when your number is called. Short of wanting to kill yourself via suicide, you can't avoid when you number is called and you can't IMO make it arrive any faster. My soul is in good standing with God thanks to Jesus Christ so the only fear I have to face is the unknown feeling of going over 157 and that doesn't scare this old guy, or at least I don't think it would. I'd love to find out where my fear threshold with regard to speed is though.

Hopefully with a cage!!!!!!

I would love to entry the Silver State Classic.

145-150 in my Civic didn't scare me as I was on SMOOTH concrete. Only reason I backed out, when I did the 4-5 shift at 130 mph I hit the bottle. My fear was blowing the motor while on the QEW in Canada......like Joe'e did the year before.

I know at that speed any little bump is not good. Suspension bottoms out and car goes airborne on the rebound.

Like I did SB 71 over Stewart Road at about 115.

I'm smarter now.....maybe.
