Had to let it sit all "one-eyed" until the weather cleared up...

The warm days let me get a lot of progress done to it...

I love those cars! I had a set of 18" cobra r's on mine, they just seemed right! I was working on molding an sn9 cobra r hood onto the factory hood when I sold it. Look on Lincolnmotorsports.com at their spoilers too! Geno makes em, they arent cheap but man do they set them off!

Well if you do the hood, check into getting a pin on from maybe liberty fiberglass for cheap and doin it yourself. The LMS hoods were almost $700 last time I checked, thats why I was cheaping mine together lol... I also was gonna mod a 97 mitsubishi eclipse spoiler to fit mine, same look but cheaper once again lol...

When is it going to be ready for a night at thornhill. I have a car here that needs a little track time put on it. You aren't scared of a 97 4.6 thunderbird with a big worthless bullit intake and a bunch of otherwise worthless mods are you?

I realized I never finished this thread... well, not finished.. but updated. Nothing is ever finished.

Anywho, last shots showed me mocking up the replacement core support. that was in 2010. I petered out, and ended up putting it on the backburner until Jan '12. Well, then the trans went out again, and it sat til spring of '13, and has been at my buddy's house down in Felicity since then. We've done a lot of work to it, hoping to get this little sleeper back on the road soon!! I'm thinkin it might come out to play this year finally!

After that was done. I drove the car off and on for a few months until the trans when out in '12. But before that point, I had to change rear "front" subframe brackets. Well, that turned into an ordeal.

Since the car had lived most its life outside, the rear subframe bushings were shot. And so were the bolts that hold them in. So this happened.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/DSC03071.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/DSC03071.jpg.html)

Since it needed new bushings, I had to come up w/ a fancy bushing installer. MacGyver style.

Since 3 out of 4 of the subframe bolts broke, I had to get fancy and extract a few this way...

Got it back on the ground after that. Also put a 4.10 gear in the back of it while it was out. Which howls like a wolf at the moon, so thats coming back out soon.

Parked it for a while until it was time to get the trans rebuilt by Alan.

The birds decided to paint it for me while I had it tucked away...

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/2013-03-09114349_zps5d777a0a.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/2013-03-09114349_zps5d777a0a.jpg.html)

So, after I got the transmission redone with the addition of a 3500 stall, and a Mag-Hytech trans pan, I had my buddy haul it down to his house in Felicity. Where it sits today.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2013-03-24165755_zps4bf435ea.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2013-03-24165755_zps4bf435ea.jpg.html)

We got it stuffed in his garage and started tearing it apart.

Pulled the stock fluid filled motor mounts off, broke a bolt off in the block.

Welded a nut to the nub and backed it out.

So whatcha got left? Ever figure out what you're doing about paint?

Stangman
07-22-2014, 08:21 PM
Still have a lot left really.

Coil over plug swap which requires newer cam covers, I alread have them, along with the coil packs, coil covers, and wiring harness that has to get spliced in to become waste spark.

Wire in the Dakota Digital speedometer recalibrator for the 4.10, or the 4.30... Depending on which way I go.

Considering doing deleting the IMRC's since it has a big stall and will run just under the rpm that they open at.

Wiring up sequential taillights. Because when the back end of your car is a giant taillight... It's only natural.

Still need to install the 255lph fuel pump and a new fuel pressure regulator, which I've yet to acquire.

Still needs new front IRS housing bushings, I have some urethane units waiting for install

Still needs a new gear in it since the 4.10 is trash.

Needs full exhaust fabricated still, and a rear bumper cover swap so I can run exhaust tips.

That's all I can think of at the moment.. lol

Oh and its staying the same shitty clear peeling paint. Til I patch the rockers and decide its worthy

Forgot to add, I found a place that sells ALL aluminum radiators for Mark VIII's and Tbirds, still single core, but the core is larger. Either way, its gotta be better than a stock plastic tank radiator with a tiny core.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0131_zpsydea1ofb.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0131_zpsydea1ofb.jpg.html)

And installed a trans cooler that will be run as standalone, and not in sequence with the heatsink in the radiator.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2013-12-15%2017.12.49_zpsn5rmj97u.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2013-12-15%2017.12.49_zpsn5rmj97u.jpg.html)

I think it's big enough.

Drilled a hole in the header panel to relocate the ambient air temp sensor from in front of the radiator, since the new trans cooler will occupy that space.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2015.34.06_zpsblezbrrr.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2015.34.06_zpsblezbrrr.jpg.html)

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2015.35.23_zpsb4rwb69h.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2015.35.23_zpsb4rwb69h.jpg.html)

Put the trans cooler thru the back of the core support and used self tappers to attach it, and it stuck thru the opening of the radiator and was perfect for still letting the a/c condensor fit.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2016.40.44_zpssjuuvsoj.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2016.40.44_zpssjuuvsoj.jpg.html)

Also as you can see, I had to remove the VRCM or whatever that thing is called, that controls various things like fans and fuel pump and whatnot so it can still get air and not die from overheating.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2018.08.04_zpsiurmdcqj.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2018.08.04_zpsiurmdcqj.jpg.html)

took a little ingenuity but it works.

Takes up the whole scenery thru the header panel lol

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2016.38.03_zpsrrvdl3cd.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2016.38.03_zpsrrvdl3cd.jpg.html)

Also while it was apart, we ran new trans hard line from the transmission to the engine bay using S.U.R & R trans line, this stuff is an alloy and made to bend easier and resist corrosion.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2013.14.24_zpsbljkrgsn.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2014-02-23%2013.14.24_zpsbljkrgsn.jpg.html)

Thanks Chad, its a fun car, and its different, so I like working on it.

Was house/dog sitting at my friends house where the Mark has been, and was able to get a few things done.

First of all, I threw away the old list, and made a newer, better list.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0363_zpsx15j1u8m.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0363_zpsx15j1u8m.jpg.html)

Then, I added loctite to the threads, and attached this in place once and for all

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0362_zpsz88qrky9.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0362_zpsz88qrky9.jpg.html)

Next was to install the Energy suspension trans mount. Since I couldnt get any of the bolts loose under the car, I took the crossmember out. The weight in the center of the crossmember was shot, and the little balls were falling out of it. And, because racecar, I dont need it.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0365_zpsqwyxdsvq.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0365_zpsqwyxdsvq.jpg.html)

Had some motivation

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0366_zpsktpcls3o.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0366_zpsktpcls3o.jpg.html)

Then it dissapeared, and the ES mount was on for a test fit

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0367_zpsxaa16jxr.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0367_zpsxaa16jxr.jpg.html)

Threw it back up in the car with relative ease

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0372_zpswjkqyqc9.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/IMAG0372_zpswjkqyqc9.jpg.html)

Well, a lot has happened here since the last update as well. I took a few months off of this one to work on my red car, and then my buddy who's house this car is at does ATV drag racing and his schedule was very tight for a while during the spring and summer. But no I've started to hit this thing hard again.

Pulled the spindles off each side and had new hubs and bearings reinstalled.
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150117_210919_zpsm2m7hh5c.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150117_210919_zpsm2m7hh5c.jpg.html)

I know a guy up in Dayton who tinkers with these cars too and he has a jig set up to redrill a ford pattern in the hubs... Think mustang wheels and cobra brakes.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2015012895174041_zpsvthtwuri.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/2015012895174041_zpsvthtwuri.jpg.html)

Then after some careful grinding of the spindles, I was able to bolt on my caliper adapters to run the cobra discs in the rear.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_160108_zpsubsfp5jn.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_160108_zpsubsfp5jn.jpg.html)

So we now have cobra rear brakes

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_183210_zpsf9oboahk.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_183210_zpsf9oboahk.jpg.html)

Oh and cobra front brakes too. Straight bolt on no mods.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_205043_zps7o4tln7j.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150208_205043_zps7o4tln7j.jpg.html)

Can't find any pictures right now but I also installed stainless braided brake hoses from www.spinningwheels-sc.com that are specifically for Mark VIII's and their goofy bubble flare brake lines.

So after that was done, it was time for new sway bars

Here's my Addco 1.25" sway bar compared to the stock hollow bar

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150815_212748_zpsclwcqxom.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150815_212748_zpsclwcqxom.jpg.html)

And the front bar also a 1.25" bar.

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150823_191311_zpsn3kppwi9.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150823_191311_zpsn3kppwi9.jpg.html)

Rear bar installed w/ Enegery Suspension bushings

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150815_215955_zps2q02jobt.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150815_215955_zps2q02jobt.jpg.html)

And front bar in with Energy Suspension bushings

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150823_193136_zpszufi4z5l.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150823_193136_zpszufi4z5l.jpg.html)

Installed my trans temp sensor

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150830_155006_zpsem135cd0.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150830_155006_zpsem135cd0.jpg.html)

Ran wiring for it thru a convenient hole in the trans case, then thru the steering boot (not thru where the shaft goes!)

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150830_174659_zpsohea5g0y.jpg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150830_174659_zpsohea5g0y.jpg.html)

Next I painted my new cam covers the original color of the car

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m135/stangman_77/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150822_142112.png_zpsxigfnxwt.jpeg (http://s103.photobucket.com/user/stangman_77/media/1993%20Mark%20Viii/20150822_142112.png_zpsxigfnxwt.jpeg.html)

The coil pack covers are from a Ford GT supercar. Very rare pieces.

So I installed those because I will be converting this car to coil over plug. (still waste spark but it looks a lot better than spaghetti wires)

My poor interior is a mess for sitting too long... all the rubber coated parts have turned to tar... and my seats are getting mildew on them... she'll need a good cleaning...

Got the preliminary coil wiring done sunday night. It's waste spark but coil over plug so no great performance advantage.. just looks better. Supposedly idle and rev is smoother. We'll find out. Hoping to solder them and heat shrink them in like a week or so next time I have time to go back down. (probably mid month)

Ha, no.

Probably won't be ready til spring... if then. I still have to get exhaust done, and several other important items... and then get it tuned in the spring when I has cash monies.

Haven't updated this one in a while. It's been kinda stagnant while waiting on parts here and there, lots of little shit holding me back. most of it is coming to a close though. Got the coil over plug wiring done. Car runs! Battery is junk though!

So we managed to get several things done:

C.O.P. wiring finalized and completed
fuel pump installed
wired up the Dakota Digital speedometer recalibrator.
installed the gauge pod and got the trans temp gauge hooked up.

Many of the rubber coated interior parts have turned into this black tar-like substance on them and so my interior is ripped apart while I strip and repaint those parts.

The bumpers are also off because I'm repairing the front cover due to a tear by the license plate holder. The rear will be swapped out w/ an LSC model bumper cover. Along w/ the side trim eventually.

So here's a few pics of what was done. (These pics were like like August-October)

Such as the sequential turn signals and brake lights!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3LmE5fl5SQ

So, I think once we finalize the wiring for the sequential setup setup (adding a relay for power for the brake lights as to not burn up the brake light switch) then the car will have the bumpers thrown back on and head to another friends house that has a lift, where I will do the exhaust.

Been a while since I could get anything done w/ this car. Pulled it out of my friends garage since there wasn't anything else we could do there until the exhaust got done.

Repaired a few spots on the front bumper where it looked like a truck backed into the bumper.

Jess that is impressive. Sure wish to know why MK VIII's had that pealing issue with the clear coat. My 94 was doing the very same thing when I sold it. That was a nice riding car. Wife still talks about that car almost every time she feels a bump in the Mustang.
