I'm thinking about selling or trading my sks for a small 380. What are sks going for these days? It has a synthetic stock with maybe 500 rounds through it. I believe its Chinese. Ill have to check who its made by. Also has the bayonet lug. Other than that just a sks.

2-300 with the original stock if its in primo condition and is indeed chinese (Norinco). Less with a synthetic stock.

Its a original Norinco with synthetic stock. Just went by shooters supply to ask them. Guy told me 300 with it being in great condition. He looked in some mags and online and didn't see any for sale. Said go to the gun show and I should be able to get 3 for it. I'm going to go with 140 rds of wolf 7.62x39mm 122 gr fjm and ask 350 obo. I want to get a .380 diamondback.

The norincos are one of the better sks made. Does it accept ak mags? If so it could be worth more. Other than that you should be able to get 300 easy seeing is how the demand for assualt rifles has greatly increased.

I think it will take a ak mag. The guy at shooters was digging it. He said I could trade it in but suggested taking it to the gun show and getting top dollar for it. Bunch of good guys at shooters supply.

No it won't take an ak mag. They make ak style mags that are designed for the SKS. AK and SKS don't use the same actions, they are similar but the design is different. that uses a stripper clip. If I remember correctly.

You are correct. It does take a stripper clip. The stock place for the ammo does not come off. You have to use stripper clip or hand load the ammo as it sits now. It hold 10 rds. I do believe you can buy a replacement mag to replace the stock non removable mag or what ever you call it.

Retro mags for sks's are extremely unreliable. Best way to keep ak's and sks's are just the way they come from the factory.

Its made by Diamondback.

Its known in the gun industry that the ppk/s had a horrible trigger and that quality went downhill when Smith started producing it. lol

hmmmm. i didnt know that. smiths used to be the best around. the only things ive seen that i didnt like from them is their 200 dollar 22 pistols.im not sure what model they are but they seem cheap. i loved my ppk and will buy another.lol

I paid $250 for mine with 50 rounds to go with it and 1 30 round clip. Mine is the norinco with the original wooden stock, cleaning kit in the end, cleaning rod slides down the barrel and it has a ground spike/bayonet on it. I have had mine for about 4 years and it doesn't appear to have been fired much. A buddy of mine had a cheap chinese one that looked liek it had been fired a million times and there was no comparison in accuracy. I think $300 sounds fair. If it were me looking for one and you told me $350 I would try to talk you down to 3 or just go get one somewhere else. It doesn't hurt to ask however I suspect many people would think the same as me on it.

I had an original Russian SKS, all serial numbers matched, sounded like the one dog described, with bayonet, cleaning rod, etc. I had the orginal box too, sold mine for 350 or 375 to a buddy of mine. He researched it and he made me the offer, so I sold it to him to finance the divorce.

Russian are definately better guns, that actually sounds liek a sweet deal for a russian. The last one I looked at was $550 and didn't have the goodies.

Depends on if you got the stamped or milled Russian SKSs. ;)

The Norincos are decent. I had one. Kind of wish I still had it. I bought a POS 1911 with the money I made off the sale.

There WAS an SKS that took 30rd AK magazines from the factory, those carry a premium.

The problem with the "duck bill" magazines is the SKS isn't designed for them and the plastic follower tends to bind on the bolt, and depending on the rifle, it can be a PITA to get the magazine seated. There is an aftermarket, fixed 20rd magazine that is supposed to work decent, if you are looking for more capacity, but still proper functionality.

I don't know current day prices on the SKS, but $275-300 sounds to be reasonable with the ammo.

The subject came up today, I was advised that changing a sks to a mag. feed is a felony. I'm not sure, but that's what I was told. Just an fyi, do your own research to be safe.

Basically you have to have so many US made parts on it to off set the addition of the magazine.
You are very correct in saying do YOUR research first.

There are sks that take ak mags. They are rarer and are worth any where between 400 - 600 dollars if they are original not a conversion.

I was able to sell it yesterday. Got 325 for it and 140 rounds of ammo. Going to pick up a diamondback this week. Checked them out Friday. Designed just like a glock. My friend has one. He put 150 rounds through it with no problems.
