Do bunnies make good pets. My daughter would love to have one. How are they just loose in the house?

jdubya
03-25-2010, 12:08 PM
They make very good pets. They are litter box trained, not hard to do. They run around the house when we're at home. Crawl up on the couch with us much like a cat would. In fact one of them was raised with cats and thinks he is one.

With that being said I would discourage anyone getting a rabbit for their kids. They require a lot more upkeep than most people think. You can't just stick them in a cage and expect them to be happy. Do your research. If you have any direct questions feel free to PM me.

Here are my two boxers. I bought one and the brindle I found at work almost dead. I took her to the vet and 4-500 dollars later I decided she was mine to keep.

ROFL, its hilarious though, since both are fixed I let him go to town. He only tries it when they are layin down and he thinks they are sleeping. They eventually get fed up of him humping their leg and go off on his lil ass then he runs and cowers. lol

Boxers are excellent dogs....maybe a bit hyper....but they are family-loving all the way! Tiger is my 2nd boxer, and my husband's 4th. I'm sorry you lost yours (I lost my white boxer a few years ago from lymphoma). i know your pain, and I know it hurts.

We recently got a new dog "haus" I need to upload a picture of him. I have had a bunch of dogs but there is one that will always be the one I consider to be my best friend.
Abby passed away a few years ago from liver failure. I still think about her all the time. I have thought several times about getting another golden retriever however I just hate to feel that I can even come close to replacing her. She was closer to being human than some people I know, without the flaws that is. She proved to me that dogs really are mans best friend.
http://members.tccoa.com/dirtyd0g/Abby.jpg
Since then I got a minature chihuahua who got loose and got ran over, but he was a very loving dog.

Five boxers in our family history and never heard of such a thing from them. However there is always exceptions. The current boxer we have loves kids and is naturally gentle with them. He does however take time to warm up to men, but once he gets to know them he never forgets them and is their buddy thereafter. Our last boxer was great around kids as well. Both in fact would dial down their rough house style play when the kids were petting or trying to play with them. My wife and I have no children so neither of the boxers I speak of is around kids daily. Both do very well around children in our family as well as strange children the boxers have/had never met. While not what I would consider an aggressive breed of dog, how the dog is raised and/or handled also has a HUGE bearing on how they respond to new experiences and new environments. I am sure that there are examples people here can give you on everything from Poodles to Pitbulls being great with kids as well as in the same breath others telling you horror stories of simlar breeds.

Be cautious with your Boxer. It may be possible that he/she can adjust to the new change and you can get him/her back in the home but I would not force the issue if he/she does not wish to take to the new addition in your family. Maybe after the child has gotten older. Sorry I can't answer this more direct as I would like to but there are things that make an animal the way it is beyond the breed or gender as I mentioned. However dogs can be retrained if you take the time with them and it is done correctly.

Have a great Christmas.

Thank you. Actually, that is Samwise our Seal Point Ragdoll. I also have a soft spot for Siamese and have owned several over the years. Siamese make wonderful pets.
Like I said, Sam isn't really a Siamese but a Ragdoll but has the Seal Point coloring and vivid blue eyes like a Siamese. Obviously, Ragdolls were bred from Siamese. :)

He's happy where he is now no doubt, and I'm not going to chance it. Last time I was there I was lovin' on him and he was sitting at my feet, my daughter walked over... well he looked every which way but at her and backed up to where he was sitting on my feet. She has never hit him, pulled on him, and has only touched him on his head a few times with me holding her. Just sucks because he is such a good dog. The dude has been across the country with me... TWICE!

We had to put our 4 year old Jack Russel to sleep back in October. Little guy never had any health problems and then one day outta the blue started having seizures. Called the vet immediately and they told us to watch him for a day and bring him in the next morning. Next morning came and on the way to the vet he went into a seizure and when we got there they couldnt get him to come out. Gave him two big doses of meds and nothing. Broke our hearts but we had to do it. While just browsing in the pets section on Craigslist we encountered a lady that had a litter of JRT pup's. A month after losing our buddy and this little guy joined our family. Meet Charlie-

We call this his Playdog pose. lol

I have a cat and a dog now but no pics uploaded of either one, so here's my old cat Taz...he got kidney failure and died a few years ago when the big pet food recall thing happened. He was a beast

their stupid. get a pit for your daughter
I disagree with boxers being stupid, they do tend not not like changes much especially after they get about 4. Getting a pit is either a really good decision or a really bad decision. You will either have a lifetime of a great family dog, or it will bite the neighbors arm off. I know this if you buy a pit get it as a puppy. The neighbor here had one that broke the screen door down and mauled the little girl next doors cousins arm off. She had told me about the problems withthe dog many times and I repeatedly told her to put it down. She refused. When it was all over she asked me if I was mad, I informed her she was lucky. If it had been my daughter (who was playing with the other 2 little girls when it happened) I would have blown the dogs head off instantly and gone looking for the negligent owner next.

TWICE!

Very wise I would say. Unusual in the breed but still a dog with it's unique personality all the same. Maybe when she gets older the Boxer will warm up. Good luck and again Merry Christmas.

Either way still awesone!! Merry Christmas!

Those things are H-O-R-S-E-S!!! 200+ lb full grown. Uh yeah, food would be a real budget shrinker. Better have one of those federal government salaried jobs if you plan on having any dog of that size! DAG!

Then again He/She could transport your kids to school each day. That was save gas money! LOL!!

Boxer owners....

Anyone have their Boxer and then kids; and the dog is ok with the kids?

My dog wants nothing to do with my daughter, even snapped at her. Had to find him a new home. Good thing my in-laws took him so I still get the see the dude. Just sucks that he's that way. I thought Boxers were good with kids? Other than that, he's happy as can be too. IDK

We brought our son home to our first Boxer, Taz, and our Mastiff, Rio. Taz was absolutely fabulous with the baby. Both dogs were. The Mastiff eventually did not want to be bothered by the toddler and would occasionally show her teeth. We trained that out of her. She never snapped at Evan. Evan climbed all over Taz. We had to teach Evan not to pull on Taz's ears. Taz would just yelp and put up with it. I'm sorry you had to move your boxer. We had to rehome our second Boxer, Shelby, for different reasons. Luckily, he is in a fantastic home....with Redfirepearl and his wife. I know we did the right thing. But seeing these pictures breaks my heart. When the time is right, we will have another Boxer!
