I ran into power problems last year so i decided never again will i have that issue so here is what i did. I put two Blue top 1000cc amp batteries in my car, i didn't want to have 2 boxes so i made my own. I used steel because it was free and easy to bend and weld. The box is bolted to the passenger side floor in the trunk, i had to manipulate the plastic a little to get it to fit but it fits nicely. I'll post up some photos of it mounted this weekend, i ran out of time and had to go to work.

Very nice work, but will it be legal, as in pass tech?

Looks like it will. He is runing optima batteries so I would think it should be fine

As far as i under stand it has to be sealed and mounted to the floor securely. And it is both. I have it bolted down now but want to get the batteries back in it before i post up the photos.

Yeah, I guess with Optimas, it is fine. I was thinking a vent tube, was needed.

Like I said though, nice work!

My Taylor box has a vent through the floor. But I'm running a reg Interstate batt.

You may want to split a piece of hose and slip it over the hold-down bracket, at least on the positive terminal side. It looks that there might be enough space that a battery could shift to one side allowing the positive terminal to contact the hold-down bar.
Good looking box!

It should still be vented with a sealed battery or not.

Why the hell do you need two batteries Dave? Is one going to be for the bottle warmer or something? What kind of alt are you using?

If you look at the bottom of the box it has steel dowel rods the batters are held by, the batteries have holes at the bottom that the dowel rods go through to keep them from moving. The top brace just keeps the batteries from bouncing up!

Yes last year i ran the single blue top dead with the bottle warmer from my house to the track then i had a dead battery and the car kept stalling and i had to be pushed off the track.
So that will never happen again. The Alternator is a new 85amp.

Is there a rule or guidance on the venting of a battery box?

Hey Dave, I am almost positive that the boxes do have to be vented. Just drill a hole in it and a hole in the floor and run a hose from the box to the floor and your done.
