Myself and 347sc were talking/bench racing tonight and decided to assemble a car to put on the dozens list this year. Using used/leftover/ "whatever we can come up with" parts. The plan is not to buy any new parts! just work with used stuff that we and others out there have. This should help keep the $$$ down also. So step one, decide to do it (which we did) and we have a goal... kind of a plan to get there too
"Step one" started tonight... here is the first pic:

So you're basically talking about my car? I can tell you how this whole thing goes down and save you all the dirty work

That's pretty much how I've gotten half the stuff for my '88 LX that I've been workin on for a few years... its the epitomy of used/junkyard parts... I used to have a build thread on here and called it the "SBZ Frankenstein"

I'll have to sit down and ad it up, but I think I have less that 1K in the car...

Jesse, talking more than just junkyard stuff, building it with alot of leftover projects parts. I can tell you there will be alot more than $1K in this build!!!!!

Thats where my parts came from, other peoples leftover parts... I'm not nearly done yet either...

I am very eager to see how your build goes as well... So do you have a candidate as to what vehicle you are going to use yet?

well you are the third person to ask... either a hatchback or coupe :D ... its a toss up right this moment, as I have one of each just sitting in the corner of the shop. Also not sure if we are going carb or efi... but leaning fuel injected ;)

I think a budget coupe would be killer!

My buddy Chris is just now starting to put some speed parts on that red one he and I came up to get a while back... after he fixes the brake lines

can one use BUDGET and COUPE in the same sentence???? its a choice that will have to be made... if badvert would buy the hatchback, that would make it an easy choice lol

as a side note.. pm me about which brake lines he needs... might be able to get a few off the car I am tearing apart this week.

I know what you mean... it would be hard to NOT go all out on a coupe... So will it be a 4-eyed car?

As far as brake lines I think he has that covered know, but I'll let you know.

man theses are all good questions... I would like to do the 4eyed (85-86 is my fav) even if that means changing front end on an 87-93, working on trading some stuff so engine parts are on my mind right now.

John, short answer no (they go one the 5lug coupe that I will be getting rid of) long answer is those wheels free up a set of weld prostars that I will be using on this project, so your wheels are helpping out :bigthumb

Alright project is continuing.... moving on too, Step Two, acquired (and pickedup!) a chassie today. Which also answers the above posters question, it is a hatchback and a four-eyed one at that :D. It is a '85 low milage mustang GT orginal Canyon Red paint and Charcoal/Grey interior. Already has rollbar and subframes connectors plus reinforce torqueboxes. Setup with some supensions , rear has dragsprings/southsides lowers/adj uppers and front is coil over with caster/camber plates.
Big THANKS to the fellow stangbangers, lugnutz83 and stock5literlx , that helped get her today (in the rain too). :bigthumb
Anyhow, I know people want to see the pics and here they are:

Sweet! I wish I could see Photobucket pics at work!!

This thread reminds me of the old Stangbangerz.com home page (before it automaticly redirected you to the forum) that had a write up on building a car out of yard sale parts and just going around Cincy to find them...

Most of my parts I got for my hatchback came from here...

I always claimed that my car is "Stangbangerz Built"

I was talking to Vinny not long before he passed about a cool sticker with that saying, and he said it was a great idea, knowing this site was a great resource for the local mustang community. He was even gonna give me the first one for free even... but, not sure how far the ball got rolling on that one for reasons we all know. :(

I have mixed emotions about seeing that car. In one hand I'm glad to see it go to a good home and be used. On the other hand I wish Joe would had put the Rat back together and enjoyed it. He owned that car for such a long time. Good luck with the build guys and let me know if you need anything.

The biggest problem is I am not a big photo taker... all the photos in this thread so far have been taken by others, but I am trying to change. I will see if I can try to take more "progress" pics as this goes. So far I have gotten alot of help and this is moving along faster than I expected (for now). Will try to keep up on the updates ...

Yea I know where you are coming from. As for emotions, you are not the only one that has them over this car, but there is alot more to that story ( as you know ;) and I wont go into here) Joe and I have had several long talks about "The Rat" and we agreed that this was the best plan. Wouldnt have done this without his "ok" . (and you know I mean that!) As a side note, he has been included in "the master plan" and I think he is really looking forward to the return :bigthumb
The car is sooo well put together and in such great shape. With a great start to where it once was (and will be again :D) it would have been ashame not to bring it back from the..... brink.
But be glad "The Rat" is coming back! and it didnt really go to another home, think of it more as going over to a brothers home. Its really still in the family.

NOW WE REJOIN OUR BUILD ALREADY IN PROGRESS...

Ok, was asked to post up more pics (to be able to show progress) so I figured already posted some on the exterior of the car and some of the early stages of the motor build (engine stand pic that started it all) so now here are a few of the engine bay before any work begins...
