Howdy folks, anyone on here capable of rebuilding a 97 Grand Cherokee trans? This is behind a 4.0 straight six. My girlfriend just graduated school with a mountain of student loans and hasn't started work yet. She is hoping to get a job in Clifton, and I don't want her to get stranded in the hood at all hours of the night.

She has babied it for at least 6 months. It typically slips for at least the first 15 minutes of operation when it's cold like this. Won't stay in the gear that's pulling, making it hard to get up to anything over 45 MPH. Luckily it's a good trek to the highway, so it usually is able to hold a gear by the time she hits the on ramp. Now once it gets warm it won't downshift back to 1st, so when she pulls away from a stop, it is slow as hell pulling in 2nd gear. We called around last week and every quote was over 1500. Anyone on here know these well and can get this bad boy back in action. It's around 200k miles, but she loves it and we are hoping to fix it and drive it for 200k more. If you see or know of a place, please let me know. Thanks

Those transmissions are very sensitive to problems with the governor pressure switch. Make sure it gets a new one. Recently someone designed a component to use the 4l80e switch and I have used a couple of the retrofit kits, it ends up being just a little cheaper and a whole lot better.
I am in Batavia,If you want me to have a look at it I gladly will.
