Hey all just curious what some of you Mustang DD are getting milage wise..... I see all these cars for sale on craigs and have similar or even more mods than mine and they are like oh yea i'm getting 20-23 mpg and I'm thinking I get like 16... so I don't know if it's my car or these guys are just blowing smoke....

If I drive mine back and forth to work in the summer I see right around 20. When it was 100% stock I use to see 26 on the highway and even as high as 30 on one trip.

I used to get 20-22 MPG's in my '94 GT. 5 speed w/3.73's, 255lph fuel pump, 24# injectors running rich on with a non calibrated MAF sensor

I checked my first tank on my 05 Expedition when I bought it last year. 11 miles per gallon. I call it a tank!!

Jesse I'd say mine's close to what you were running, i've only got headers off road H pipe 3:73's, CAI and that's pretty much it.......

Wow that really sucks. I had my mother-in-law's 05 expedition for a couple of weeks a while back and actually managed to get 21 mpg out of it in the highway. I am guessing the difference is the fact that her's is 2wd.
On a side note I see as high as 38mpg out of my 95 Neon.

With stock 2v and single T70 I was seeing 18 between city and highway. And that's not driving conservative by any means.

I probably got around 10mpg when I used mine as a DD. My problem was keeping my foot out of the throttle. lol.

When I DD my 03 Cobra I got 19 mpg. I got 23.5 average on a trip to Kansas When I had my stock 03 Mustang Gt I got 23.5 mpg on 87 oct which was awesome in my opinion since my new DD gets the same with 91-93 octain.

I've got stock headers, offroad H, CAI too I just didnt mention it. I'm actuallly probably getting 18-19MPG's with the uncalibrated MAF, but before I did the 24# injector swap, I was getting 20-22, so when I get it cal'd it should go back to where it was. Heck I also had the 10.5" bullits on the back too.
I dont know what you did to your car ignition-wise, but I have all good MSD tune up stuff, and an accell ignition control module.
And I'm a little more aerodynamic than you. BUT weigh more.

I just have a MSD cap and rotor, and a blaster coil........ i've got stock injectors and stock MAF..... so I dunno 16mpg just seems kinda low I guess.......

In my 04 GT stock i was getting like 15 in the city and 24 on the highway. depends on your foot, is it lead or light...;)
On the 98 Cobra i get like 14 city and 22 on the highway, horsepower comes at a price :)

The exped is fully loaded 4x4 and all. It also has the 5.4 3 valve. I haven't checked it lately. May have to do that!

I believe my coupe gets around 14 if i baby it...which is pretty damn good if you ask me considering my stupid Cherokee is only rated for 16 from the factory. My Merkur will get 24 if you stay out of the boost.
Pitbull1052
01-28-2010, 04:49 PM
so to me David I should be getting a lot better than you and I don't granted I don't baby mine either but I don't run it that hard I don't think

Being a mostly stock EFI car, yeah you should really be getting better than 14. The gears are one thing, the big wheels are another (there's a lot of rolling mass on those puppies). The taller tires will help cut down the effectiveness of the gear ratio but still not a good recipe for mileage. You may wanna look into getting new O2 sensors and doing a full tune up on it and see if that helps.
Pitbull1052
01-28-2010, 05:10 PM
I don't think the 18's made much difference it was getting about 16 with stock ponies and it's about the same now..... I think i'm gonna do the O2's and a full tune when it gets warmer out.......

mustangs were not made for milage. just dont check it and you will feel better. lol. I have no idea what i get and dont think i want to know. i do agree with not being able to keep your foot out of it. Its no fun if you drive them "normal".....

oh for sure don't get me wrong I'm not complaining I just look at alot of cars for sale every day and I see cars that have way more done to them than mine does so the other day I was curious and did a milage run and came up with 16 mpg so when I see cars for sale that are stroked and charged 4:10's and all the usual stuff and they say they are getting 20+ mpg just kinda made me wonder what you all thought........ doesnt seem like I'm too far off and I prolly keep my foot in it enough to make that difference

Are you sure you have the right speedo gear for your 3.73s? You might be getting much better mileage than you think you are if your odometer is reading wrong. Or wait...would that make it seem like you're getting better than you really are? Now i've confused myself lol.

lmao I guess I'm not totally 100% positive since I didnt install it MD did but I'm guessing it's on at least the last time I got a ticket my speedo matched what the officer said I was doing lol

I was only getting like 18 or 19 in my v6 I think so I sold it and am hoping to buy an escape or mariner hybrid AWD suv this week!!!! I totally figured the thing would get tons better mileage than my GT but apparently not.... so I have had to drive my GT for the past few wks every day which is getting old..... considering I have been driving to Mason 2-3X's a week plus school 2 or 3 days a wk

I average about 19 in the S4. Not bad for a 3700 lb V8 with AWD.

I only DD mine during the Summer. I have an O/R X-Pipe, CAI, Diablo Tune, Flowmaster Exhaust and 3.55 gears(factory) and I get 20-23. My drive to work is from Bethel to Batavia. I go SR 125 to SR 133 to SR 32. So I would say that is Highway. Oh and mine is an auto so that might help a little.

don't dd the 91 but with 2.73s and just a cai and exhaust I get about 16-18 average. Course I don't drive it like a DD either, that's with some spirited driving thrown in the mix, no racecar driving but also no "gotta watch my shifts and make the best of this tank" driving either.

sounds like i'm right where it should be then did you mean 3:73's or ???? that's about what mine has 3:73's headers, cai, no cats, super duty t-5, 18's and that's about it..... just looking at craigs, ebay and what not seems like i'm always seeing these guys selling with way more mods than mine, heads, injectors, 4:10's, and a c4 and say they are getting 20+ and I'm thinking there's no way ya know.........

yea man, I'm thinkin people aren't doing it right. I'm anal as hell about my gas mileage on my 94 nissan, the daily to and from work car, straight highway and I calculated 26.84 yesterday and first thing I did when i got it 5000 miles ago is complete tune up
I'm turning about 1600rpm at 65-70mph in 5th, gotta be 2.73s, prev owner told it had stock gears and he's known the car since brand new.

Jack the rear of the car up. Tie a long string around the drive shaft and let a couple feet hang straight down towards the ground. Put it in neutral and turn the rear wheels forward one complete revolution, then go under and count how many times the string wrapped around the shaft...or in other words 3.73 wraps (or about 3 and 3/4) is your gear ratio. It's not perfect but unless you have some oddball ratio like 3.90s, its pretty fool proof.
