I'm debating on buying new headers and i'm curious if 1 3/4 headers would benefit me or if i should just get new 1 5/8 like i have now. The engine is a 347 with about 9-9.5:1 compression, ported C90E 351 heads (1.94/1.60s), AFM N-91 cam, and right now a Stealth intake and Holley 650 but that's gonna change to a Victor Jr and a Pro Systems built carb. I'm not trying to build a dyno queen so picking up a little peek HP in exchange for gobs of torque isn't for me.

I don't think a set of 1 3/4's will hurt you much in the tq #'s now...plus they will give you room to grow down the road. I use to run a set of BBK 1 3/4's on my 347 when I first built it when I ran a 5 speed. I now run a set of Hooker 1 3/4's s/c's (#6227's) with a C4.

I've heard the BBK's are good as far as fit goes...how did you like them? I like that they have a solid flange at the head...my Mac's don't and i hate it when it comes time to reinstall them. Being bigger tubes does it make it any harder to work with them? Do they rub the steering shaft more?

FYI I had 1 3/4 BBK when I had that s-block. It also made 15hp. more with the Parker funnel web than the vic. jr.

I think you may have had a bit more head than i do....also what RPM did it make those numbers? If i remember right you had Dart heads...i'm sure they flowed a bit better than my ported Windsors.

thats true I had RHS 200cc heads and shifting at 7,500. rpm air gap probably best choice considering the heads!

that n91 is pretty nasty isnt it? how does that feel on the street? ... stay with the 1 5/8" headers ... i dont think $399 for bbk's is a good bang for the buck ... i debated the same thing a few years back ... i stayed with mine ...

Honestly i was afraid it was too much cam...and it may very well be for my heads but it gives me room to grow. It still makes pretty good torque so i don't think it's hurting me any if at all. Drivability is great down to about 2k RPM or if you're in the wrong gear, then of course it'll buck ya. That won't be as much of an issue when i swap to 4.10s. I expected it to be really lazy on the bottom end but it comes alive at about 3k and rips clear to whenever you feel like shifting it.
