Astro a-5 is just like a g-force but don't have the whine and might be a little cheaper.

Give Tony a call at astro performance. He's a great guy and I have been running a g-force t-5 now for 2 years...it whines a little but someday I will build an A-5.I have been running a winsor on a small shot of spray with no issues so far.I have been running 10.75ish for the last year and i would say over 300 passes in the last 2 years(i know sounds like alot of passes but we have a few test and tune weekends here where i can get 50-60 passes in a weekend)...nothing but good things here to say of astro performance.

You looking for a face plated trans or synchronized? What rpm you going to shift at?

Face plated trans has no synchros, so when you shift it goes in there is no waiting and a pretty loud clunk along with a loud whine, on the other hand the synchros is what makes a trans more street friendly for downshifting and what not. Face plated will go into gear just about every time unless you have some damage, if your shifting at 7,200 its not going to work well with any kind of synchronized trans, and on the other hand if you go face plated your not going to be in love with the street manners if you drive the car allot. You get above 6400 rpm shifts and face plated is the way to go.

guess i will have to lower shift point then and got to have street manners guess i am going syncronized

Thats a huge drop from shifting at 7200 down to 6400. Will your engine actually make good useable power at 7200 rpm? Most street/strip efi 5.0's you will find shifting in the 5500-6200 range. Do you have a dyno graph showing your tq and hp curve?

no i dont have a dyno sheet yet. but as soon as the motor goes in the car and is up and running it is going to cincy speed. the motor combo is a 306, 11.5 to 1 compression, x cam, victor jr heads, victor jr intake, 42 pound injectors, long tube headers, mac pro chamber, mac cat back system. but shifing at 6400 would be alot eazier on parts.

I don't know what your real goals are, but i'm gonna say try to stay realistic. I don't know many people who run 7200RPM. I was told my engine was shifted at 7500 but i'm not sure what trans he had in it. If you look at a lot of dyno graphs, i a lot of the stroker combos you see are peaking around or before 6500.

i would just like to see a high 10 out of it and still be able to street drive it

I had a Hanlon Faceplated TKO 500 behind that motor. Left Starting line 7,500 and shifted 7,500Rick can atest to that! They are for sure not street friendly but nothing better at the track. You can shift at a high rpm with the syncro trans but you won't be fast at it due to it having to come down on rpm's between shifts before it will come out of gear. But you can always get a g-force t-5 with all the good parts to hold up to your power and faceplate 3rd (the most missed gear LOL) to get the best of both worlds.

yea I can attest to that, damn thing sounded like a jet going down the track! Fun to watch!:bigthumb:evilgrin:

I've been to Liberty's Gears in Michigan. And If I ever put a manual behind anyone of my cars I'll have the trans done by them. The tech guys are cool and very easy to talk to.

How much power are you looking to make and what's your setup?

I'm going to run a 3550 for now and see how it holds up.

i would like to see 400 to 430 but later on try to spray a 150 shot and i just would love to see a high 10 out of the car when all done on motor i was looking at a gforce t5
