Trying to get a loan on one that's heavily modified and need an appraisal, i'm sure it would help to insure it once I get it as well

Is the seller willing to take it to a place to have it inspected? I know when I took my Trans Am, they did a complete check of the vehicle and basically just asked what mods were done to it, and how much i thought it would cost to replace that part if the car was stolen/wrecked.

Generally on a loan for a car like this it comes down to your credit. I would talk to your lender before you spend money on an appraisal and get an idea what they will lend you. Special interest cars are a little harder to get loans for unless your credit is really good. Not to be off topic but I did finance for many years and this is what i have seen in the past.

Better find a good credit union, because a bank will not touch a car older then 10 years old.

not totally true. Good credit will get you far with any major lender but a credit union usually has better rates.

I know when I was getting a loan to buy the cobra, the bank said that with the economy the way that it is, that banks have implemented new loan requirements and with the age of the car they would not touch it. I have a great credit score and they said that basically a credit union was the only option or to take out a home equity which I wasn't about to do. And you are right, you can get a much better rate through a credit union.

Why not a home equity loan? Usually a great rate, and you get to deduct the intrest from your taxes.

Sounds like buying a home would be a smarter financial move than buying another car.
