It's a 2004 Ford Ranger EXT FX4 Level II...

FX4 Level II's came with 4.10 gears, a Torsen rear diff. Bilstein shocks, skid plates, 31" BFG A/T's, Alcoa wheels, a 207HP 4.0L, front towhooks, 2" hitch, deep rubber floormats, bedliner, a really kick ass interior, heavier sway bars, higher lift and other little stuff...

I love it and it's 15mpg's!

What is it the gear that sucks the mileage down?

My '97 Cherokee gets 17-18. Our new AWD Mariner doesn't do much better at 20 MPG. I miss the Focus already!!!

I had one of those for a short time... Get ready for a rough ride! I only had mine about a month because they will beat you to death!

Nice truck though! :)

It rides better than my '94 GT so I LOVE it... but nothing compares to the ride in the Lincoln...

And no there aren't many FX4 level II's around

Yeah, just like in the stang, 4.10s at highway speeds push the engine to higher RPMs and cause the vehicle to guzzle more fuel. It is always a trade off.

IIRC, if he swaps it out he'll have to swap out the front axle final gear, too.

My sister's S10 Blazer is getting ~12mpg, but it runs pig rich due to a clogged spider injector.

Really nice truck there. I was looking at one but they wanted more than I wanted to pay.

Jesse we need to do a group tuning session at MD haha. I don't know what trans is in yours, but mine has the 5R55E I think and the shifts are wayyyy to sloppy. They need firmed up big time and should make the trans live longer too. Maybe we can get some more MPG's out of the SOHC with a good tune

My trans seems to shift pretty firm, but i think it has issues going back down into low gear when I stop, when I slow downit bucks right before I stop and when I take off it feels like it bucks twice then goes... does yours do that?

Not that I'm aware of, I'll try and pay attention to that next time I'm driving. I know ford has all kinds of problems with these transmissions so anything I can do now to make it last longer I'm down for lol.

Just found out the burning oil is a leaking intake gasket that 4.0 pushrod motors are notorious for and I really dont have very much blow-by at all suprisingly

Did you get a chance to take this thing out in the snow? I about spun off 275wb after wards corner when it was snowing like crazy at about 7:30 last night. Probably a good 20 cars were either wrecked or pulled off to the side of the road right there, east bound was basically shut down cuz of a nasty wreck.

I pulled off the side, put it in 4x4 high and I couldn't even tell there was any snow on the ground after that point.
