Anybody running gt40p heads, if so what kind of headers are you running on them. I have a set of mac headers and there seems to be some clearance issues with the spark plugs.

The only headers that fit P heads perfect are the FMS or Mac gt40p specific shorties. There are others that will fit...but some plugs are a bit tight...have to use 90 degree plug boot ends on them. I use to run a set of mac 1 5/8" lt's for a 5sp on my old 302 p head combo.

Do u have shorties or LT's? I have mac long tubes on my gt40p setup and I had no issues at all.. no need for 90* boots or any of that. Shorties will be a whole different story tho.

Yeah they are shorties, clearance is really minimum on the backside of the engine and i am just worried about heat from the headers. Thanks for your input so far guys.

Well it looks like your going to be looking for new headers either way. Your choices are a P head specific shorty header or you can just go with long tubes. IMHO theres no choice, long tubes all the way! I went that route and dont regret it at all, and in the end I came out even after switching from shorties

or you could get some heat resistant spark plug boot protectors if there arent any other issues

Yeah, i will probably go with the long tubes, my exhaust needs a freshen up and its always easier to spend the money i dont have when i can justify it somehow. Thanks for all your help. Anybody need a set of mac shorties, lol.
