I thought I would start a build thread for a race car I am creating. Bought it earlier this summer and have started the ground up destruction.

Anyone interested in learning how to sand blast? I will be having an OJT sessions starting in the evenings.
It will be absolutely free to everyone. I will supply the air, a hood, safety goggles and a CAR BODY to blast. If I get too many eager sand blasters. I will limit the sessions to one hour each.
Actually, the blasting is a PITA. About 70% done with the under side. Well, back at it.

Yuck... look at those messed up pinch welds...
If you plan to paint the underside I "THINK" you have to ad a zinc primer coat to the metal first... not 100% sure
Did you rent the sandblaster and rotisserie or do you own it?? I'd LOVE to put my fox on a rotisserie!!

Yes the pinch welds are a mess.
And yes I own the equipment. I have already destroyed a cheap ass craftsman media blaster. Cheap ass casted parts. I am using a Clarke now that is not meant to use sand, but the softer stuff. It is about shot. $30 for blasters, $120 in sand.
I made the rotisserie out of an old wieght bench. Bought the 1/4 inch angle iron at Tractor supply. I would be glad to sell it after I am done with it. Cheap!!!!!!!

Now that's how you do it! I like what you are doing with it. Very nice, finds the rust too easily tho, lol. Engine compartment looks killer. Yeah, what Jesse said is correct, but first you have to use a degreaser and clean the hell out of that metal, to get compressor oil out of the pours. Then use an etching primer/epoxy to spray on and adhere to the blasted metal. I used to own a restoration shop, and had my own rotisary, but that went with another partner when we closed :( way back when.

Nice job man...the rotissarie is the way to do it.Thats the way I've been doing mine.Really nice for welding and so on as you can place it in any position.Keep us updated as I will be watching this build...

Picked a set of GT40P heads. Got gaskets, shorty headers, spark plugs and ARP head studs and protective sleeves.
They are new heads, machined and P.A. Up to .600 lift set up in the springs.
Almost ready to beef up the torque boxes and under coat the body.

Where did you end up getting your GT40P's from after your Vandemarks experience?
jlt2006
02-09-2010, 01:41 PM
off of craigslist. They had been listed three times. I was going to get them when my income tax money came in. I had the money but the ad had expired. I started looking around and found the Vandemark set and then I happen to check CL again and the guy had reposted. He workes for Portland forklift com I think. He said he has been on here before. He worked at PA a couple of years ago.

Chris painted a hood for me when I bought 06 back in 06. When I bought this car as a project, I really did not plan on doing it this way. But the guy I first had lined up to paint it, Lets just say he called 8 weeks after he said he would paint it. The car had been at Plated's for a week then. So, I am actually glad the first guy stumbled. Because I am sure the car would not have been this nice.
He is very good at his trade.

Thanks to JCCOX77, the TKO 600 is installed. he stopped by to collect for some parts and to get a few parts. He was gracious enough to help me finish seating the trans. PITA that it was, only took us an hour.
Also thanks to JCCOX and SteveLX on the information about grinding the tip off the passenger side motor mount.
Stopped by hardware store and got some fasteners and will be finishing the bolt down tonite.
Found out the end yoke on the driveshaft will need to be changed out.
