Do I need? (axle question)

I am rebuilding a 8.8 rear for my 87 Coupe build.

Going with 31 spline axles. Do I need to go with big ends or should I just keep the small ends?

What are the benefits to going to the bigger ends? I assume it is a bigger bearing for the 31 spline axle.

Is this something that is required in some racing formats?

Second question is, can I use the current caliper brackets if I do a C clip elim on this axle?

Is the cost worth the investment?

I had both my axles done by Gary Rhoe (sp?) The 9 inch ends allow a bigger bearing plus, the brackets to bolt the axles in, completely deleting the C clips. Just tell whoever you order the axles from what was done. I've had over 3 years of nitrous slick launches without a problem.
