A few SBZ and I went to the range today and plinked w/our 10/22's. I did some ammo testing and figured that I would share my results with everyone. The way my tests were conducted are; 1. Clean with a boresnake, 2. shoot 4 to 5, 5 round groups, @ 25 yards, 3. Clean, swap ammo, repeat. As far as test results, I threw out the first group, then measured and added all groups together, then divided by three or four (depending on amount of groups) for the best average.
Here are my results, shooting a 10/22 Target model. Every gun is different, so your results may vary. But what I find interesting is that the most expensive ammo wasn't even close to being the best. And in one case it was the worst ( in my rifle), getting beat by 20 yer old bulk ammo.
In all fairness, I shot 1/4" groups with the Wolf Extra, Wolf Target, Federal 711b, Eley Pistol, and Eley Target. I think if I were to shoot a hundred rounds of each of these, the pecking order may change a little bit. But @ $5/50, The Wolf and Federal are hard to beat.
Coincidentally, We were shooting our 10/22's on 10-22.
1. Wolf Target, .343" , $5/box of 50
2. Federal 711b, .354" , $5
3. Wolf Extra, .374" , $5
4. Federal 719 .394" , $5
5. Remington Club Extra .411" , $12
6. Eley Pistol .416" , $?
7. Eley Target .421" , $5.50
8. Fiocchi Match .453" , $6
9. CCI Stinger .500" , $?
10. Fiocchi HV .583" , $4
11. Remington Ylw Bllt .675" , $3
12. Remington Viper .708" , $? (bulk,cheap)
13. Remington Sub Sonic .916" , $3
14. Winchester Match .968" , $12

My 10/22 LOVES Winchester SuperX, I have about 1.5 bricks left of that lot.
50 yards @ Spring Valley, 30 rounds, I lost center and the group opened up.

Volqustrian hammer and did my own over travel limiter, 1/8" ball bearing behind the trigger spring.
Why it likes that lot of cheap ammo, I dunno. I tried some Eley, Federal Gold Match, as well as other match ammo, nothing came close.

I like the wolf ammo. I bought 1000 rounds for my sks and have had great luck with it. I had some remington that continuously jammed in my rifle.

It was a good day. The method used by IBSTROKIN' was consistent and methodical. The information speaks volumes about trying things for an individual, not just assuming that the most expensive is the best. Tuning always results in useful information.
Dyno time, range time and track time are worth the cost and time to do them!

I consider wolf to be basic range ammo in everything centerfire, I shoot it in .223. But in .22lr, it is actual match grade ammo.

The CCI Stingers that I used didn't work that well, the groups were ok, but I had three Fail to fires in Twenty rounds. Mark, 93hulk, had some CCI blazers that I wanted to try, but I forgot to get some from him before he left the range.

That's impressive. I need to get back to the range to do some 50 yard tests. Is your 10/22 modded, I would think it would have to be to shoot groups like that @ 50 yards. Congrats

I had some badass pics of it, cant find em right now. Ill take some more and email em to you. I dont like posting pics of guns on the forums.
The Mueller APV is badass, I have 2 of them. The other is on a Marlin 917VSF, it sits on a BKL 261 1pc mount. They go for about 125bux. Great scope for the money. I have had many scopes ranging from 50-500bux. This scope is awesome and compares to scopes at twice its price.
www.mizzoumuleguns.com has em.

I have been using a lot of Blazer .22 lately. Mostly because that is what my 22/45 likes. CCi standard for the Smith and whatever is in the ammo bag for my riffles

The Blazer is the cheapest I can get my hands on currently and I am loving it.

Blazer is one of my favorites, very good accuracy for around $2 a box. My brother had some trouble with Blazer leading the barrel of his Ruger mkii a couple years ago. That ammo was from a 525 round bulk pack of Blazer, since then we haven't used the bulk packs. I now only shoot blazer in the 500 round bricks, 10 boxes of 50, and we have never had any other issue.

I about had a heart attack when I priced .22 LR lately.
Of course I haven't had to buy any in 14 years as I stocked up on Federal bulk packs from Wally World. $75 for a case of ten.

Wolf Match is by far the best reasonably priced stuff I have used. Last summer I took a box of the cheap Blazer stuff and weighed each out. It was amazing the difference in groups once they were sorted by weight and consistent.

In the past few months, I've had a fun time with my .22's. I recently did some mods to both of my .22's. First one is a marlin 60 with an ati fiberforce stock. I still have to put a bipod on it and change to a different scope. My other .22 is a Ruger 10/22 that I converted using a Archangel stock. Along with the stock, I've added an AR-15 carry handle, red dot scope, UTG foregrip, AR-15 low profile front sight. The first pic is marlin right after I put the stock on, second pic is the ruger finished.

I bought a shit ton of blazer in bulk during one of the shortages. Even shooting 75 rounds a week at steel plates I still have not put a dent in it. I got some Yellow Tag CCI in trade the other day. I am going to try that in the 41

Tim, you may want to try some Eley pistol, it shoots very good.

Federal Bulk packs (575rounds) from Wally World, $7.50 a box, $75 for a master case, I bought 2 master cases.
My 10/22 LOVES Win SuperX but does well with the Federal Bulk HP's.

A fellow banger and I went to the range earlier in the week and I shot a .440" 5 shot group @ 50 yards with Lapua Center X, and a .475" 5 shot group with Wolf Match Target. The info from my test on page 1 of this thread was @ 25 yards, so these were both great groups for a 10/22 @ 50 yards. The Wolf Match Target is cheaper than the Lapua, and would probably be the better choice, unless we're shooting for Hot Dogs.
