Classic Car Vin Checks?

Ok, so I have been trying to track down my father's old 1961 Chevy Truck. When he passed away I let it go to his wife's daughter's boyfriend as I didnt have anywhere to store it. Today while unpacking some stuff I found a list he made of what he wanted to do to it,all the info he found on it and it lite a fire under me to find out where it went. Anyone know where to look for a vin check? I tried carfax but the vin is only 12 digits so they werent any help. I searched around and didnt find much of anything either. Just a bunch of vin decoder sites. Here is the vin if anyone can find anything.

You used to be able to go to the title dept and do a title search. It cost a few bucks to do it. I'm not sure if they still do it with all the personal identification thefts anymore.
