We are set at EW for a Stangbangers event on Friday October 9. I am hoping that at least 20 cars are represented with plenty of friends as well. The air will be cool and cars will be running fast.
Here is what I am proposing. When you arrive you will need to identify yourself as part of the Stangbangers. I'm hoping we can get the drivers a discount. I haven't talked to my bosses about that yet, but I really don't think there will be a problem.
I want to set up a special area for just your cars. I think the middle area next to the concessions will be best. Close to the staging lanes and easy to watch the other cars.
If the people who have never raced before can show up by 5:30 or so, I will take you over to the starting line and show you, up close and personal, how the starting line works with the staging lights and "christmas tree". My first time on the starting line I had no idea what was going on. Each Friday, we have people who do not know how to turn on the lights. Encluding, a Bengal football player that came for the first time a few weeks ago. This will give you a huge advantage.
Regular racing begins around 5:30. You are welcomed to make as many passes with the other drivers as you want. Usually for the first 45 minutes or so it is a free for all until we have enough cars to divide them up between slicks and street tires. Then they will run as two separate groups taking turns.
Around 7:30 I will call for a driver's meeting and then we will discuss forming a bracket race exclusively for the Stangbangers. For those of you who do not know what a bracket race is, I will explain it then. If you choose to wager money, this will be the time to ante-up. I will get one of our employees to hold the money. But you will have to decide how it will be divided up.
We will draw playing cards to create parings for the bracket race including the first round bye if there is one. All other byes will be choosen by the fastest reaction time from a previous round. Only one bye per racer, however. The Stangbangers will have their own lanes to race from.
Around 8:00 we will begin a single elimination bracket race. All other non-Stangbangers will not be allowed to race at this time. One round of racing will not take more than 20-30 minutes. Then we will allow the other cars to continue to race while the Stangbanger winners allow their cars to cool down. We will allow about 15-20 minutes of cool down time before the next round of racing.
Those who do not win are welcomed to continue racing with the other racers if they choose. Don't go home!
I am usually working on the track that night, but this night I will be working exclusively with the Stangbangers. This way I can answer questions, give lame advise, be a cheerleader, and make sure everything makes the evening really good for everyone.
Finally, I remember from another post a request for some heads up races. We can't do this as part of the bracket race, but during the regular racing, if you have someone in particular you want to race, this can be easily arranged. That, of course, would be heads up.
Personnally I am excited about doing this. I know several of you guys already, but I'm hoping to get to know more of you.
Also, one final request. I wear a size large shirt. I think I would look really cool driving my corvette wearing a Stangbanger's shirt. Especially at Colerain's Quaker Steak and Lube cruise-ins Of course I'm happy to pay.
Looking forward to seeing you Friday night October 9.
