What exactly to I need cage wise to be 9 second legal? I believe it needs to be a 10 point cage. Can I still have swing out door bars?

Yes...10pt...can really be a 8pt depending on how bars are ran...swingout bars are legal.

According to the Quick reference, needs to be 10pt. Even a 10.0 to 11.0, if over 135MPH.

Swingout bars are legal, to 8.50.

Yes, John, swing out bars are legal. You will need a full cage, not a roll bar. It will have to come down in front on either side of the dash and then have a diagonal that passes from the main hoop to the front down bar. It should also have a rocker bar, drivers side is mandatory I believe and passenger is not, but do it in chrome moly and get both sides done and x the rears. Make it a cage you can grow with. That will be good to 8.5's

Cool, sounds good Mike. I found a couple of places that sell cages online. I'm assuming that those wouldn't be as optimal as a custom bent cage. Having said that, who's the man around here for cage work? Any ideas on what a cage like you described would run Mike?

Get ahold of JIMSSVT and have him do it for you. He has done some awesome stuff in the S197 platform cars. It gets done in a timely manner and is AWESOME work. We have a car out there now for a customer :bigthumb:bigthumb

I just sent Jim a PM on the subject. I'm going to go the rest of the season and try to dodge the cage rules since I am trying to buy a house and not spend the money, but I'm planning on getting it done around tax return time if things work out right.

My cage is a 8pt...cert'ed to 8.50. 2 rear bars, main hoop,2 kickers off the main hoop to the trans tunnel, 2 front A-pillar bars. The door bars go from the main hoop to the a-pillar bars. I also have a dash bar connect the 2 a-pillar bars.

I do believe that rocker bars are only manditory if you have altered the stock floor pan on a unibody car. There are a few exceptions if your have a unibody car with a unaltered firewall and floorpan.

I see what you mean, Jeff. I was thinking rollcage/rollbar, going by what I knew, from shopping for a kit.

One example. (http://www.jegs.com/p/Competition-Engineering/Competition-Engineering-Roll-Bars-Cages/1205013/10002/-1)

Basically the same except my door bars connect to the A-pillar bar just a few inches up from the floor plates. The door bars are not welded directly to the floor plates.

They don't in those kits either. It looks like they do, but they don't. It's how many points the cage is connected in or something strange like that. The rocker bars go there and the down bars connect in above them. Basically it's a ten point if it's a cage and an 8 point if it is a roll bar. Don't ask me why. You can look on S&W's site.
