I was reading the thread about the 393 stroker... If you don't have to bore the block..what do you have to do to build a 347? Just rods and crank? Also..how come u hear more people running the 347 and not the 393? Just curious??? I'm still learning :D

347=8.2" deck block=302
393=9.5" deck block=351

A 347 is a 4.030" bore x 3.4" stroke crank
If you had a stock block with a good stock bore (4.00) then you could build a 342.

A 347 takes specific pistons and rods (5.4 or 5.315" depending on the pistons). You can't use the stock pistons or rods.

deck block is nothing. he was giving you the deck heights of the blocks for the strokers.

deck height of the block
302 block is 8.2" from crank centerline to the top of the block deck
351 is 9.5" for the same

If running a stock block...a stock roller 302 block is only good for about 500rwhp before you risk splitting the block. A stock 351 block is good for 650-700 depending on the year of the block casting.

If your starting from scratch...buying everything...go with a 351 (windsor) block based stroker. You will have more HP potenial and a stronger block if using a stock based block.

yes, go with the bigger cubic inches! ... i built a 331, but it was almost 7 years ago ... i was looking for a nice 11 second time slip and streetability ... i guess it depends on what you want out of your car ...

if you're going to spend $ on a build, go with the bigger cubes ...

if I put a 351 in my car (94 gt) won't I have to do some fabrications? like to the motor mounts or anything? What about transmission...

they work. you would need a hood, and swap headers for it. possibly some other odds and ends.

I agree! Not to mention its about the same money. If I could do it over I would have a 393 in my car.
