thats a good deal ... 61k is low mileage and you're guaranteed true gt40 heads with the 1996 explorer ... p heads didnt come out til mid 1997 ... take it and run ...

you sound new to this, so swap out the explorer cam for a stock 87-93 cam ~ run 1.72 rockers ... its a good idea to change the stock valve springs on those heads, while you're at it ... you should see a nice mid 12 sec time slip on slicks ... curt (12seclx) and shannon (kennebellcobra) are running high 11's (all motor) ... just depends on how deep you want to take your project ...

good luck :bigthumb

yea, dont let him know about the heads ... he may strip the engine down and try to get $400 for the heads alone ... its a good deal ... you can search 94-95 cobra motors and they want $1800 plus on carparts website ... you're basically getting the same thing ...

i think you could drop it right in there and pull @270 to the wheels ... depends on how far you take it, wouldnt be shocked to see 300 plus with the right cam and surrounding parts ...

i would talk about what the factory stock guys do with these combos, but its a different ballgame ... they do some amazing things in that class ...

Yeah, FS is amazing in NMRA. That is a smokin deal. I have bought several of those engines and with that milage that is a steal. I bought a 99 unit with 40k on it and had to pay close to 1k for it. The one you are looking at has realy GT40 heads, so that is a steal. Grab it and do the mods mentioned above and you will have a very fast, clean car. We've seen up to 300 rwhp on one of these engines with supporting mods. I made 250 rwhp using stock mass air and stock throttle body. I know it would have picked up power with a cold air, throttle body and larger maf. good luck with it and post up a build on it.
