The pump inside view showing the seriously massive balloon plate.

The modified stator, this is the roller clutch version which uses and aftermarket larger diameter hardened race, it has also been modified for lubrication. THis should handle any turbo ford up to about 550 ftlb flawlessly

The turbine showing the hardened splines also note the turbine and pump are both fully furnace brazed.

Last but not least for the day is the welds on the turbine making it a bulletproof part. This is a modification I make even to furnace brazed fins to prevent them from rolling the fins.

It was prettier before the welds but it is stronger now. I will get the final picture of the completed unit after leaktesting balancing and painting later tonight or early tomorrow.
Enjoy your labor day guys I just wanted to show off the first Billet cover turbo 4cylinder converter I have built. I have built something similar for years using the OEM front cover. This blows that away. Now I may need to swap my truck to c4 when I finally get the hairdryer on it.

you're a tease!!!!!!

Start with a base notch slushbox, add boost = street sleeper.

How hard to make the AOD shift right instead of skipping 2nd?

that is easy. AODE sun shell and 4r70w reverse drum with mechanical diode. USe an intermediate pressure plate from a 4r70w as well as the 4 plate frictions and then a 2 inch band. You'll change the 7 element roller clutch that usually breaks into a mechanical diode, then add a 2 inch overdrive band in place of the aod 1.5 inch, of course while youre there you'll find every other part of an old aod needs updated as well.
Are you referring to the a4ld from the 4cyl cars?

Can a A4LD work and hold the power?????

Ultimate goal would be high 12's to mid 13's but also tuned for cruising gas mileage.

I suppose it could come close., It wouldn't ever be really that strong.

I heard someone say one time that the A4LD could have a few more gears if they wanted it to. Don't know how much truth there is to it, but I've read that about other transmissions also.

Ewww...A4LD...

And you say that like it is a bad thing?????? ;)

Those things were goldmines, $18-2200 R&R and rebuild, just like its ugly stepbrother, the AXOD.

How much for something like that?

The A4LD has multiple planetaries. Withou any major physical changes it was made into the 4r55e/5r55e. I heard of 6 speed versions but have never seen one. They have nothing in common with an axod. The axod shares design with the 4r100 oddly. AXOD's have provisions for plenty of clutch, keeping the pump and final drive together is the challenge.
