As some of you may already know, I decided to sell my 93 notchback project, for a running driving stang. I just dont have the time or money to finish it right now, and my girlfriend got hooked on drag racing 3 weeks ago in my cousins 92 gt. So I figured what the hell, lets get me a new dd, and her a new drag car. Well it's not much, but has a few nice mods. Full length headers, 2 1/2 pipes, h pipe, flowmasters with dumps, 4:10 gears, 5 speed with shifter, smoked lx tails, lowered, nice stereo etc. This is what it is right now, keep posted for updates over the next year, as cash permits ;-)

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd80/INSANEBA/gt.jpg

I think I did good, only traded my roller for this complete car. I got to keep everything I was going to put in the notch, heads cam etc. Whatcha think, did I do ok guys?

Well I got under it today to put dumps on the flowmasters, and noticed it already has the frames tied, and the lower and upper arms boxed with poly bushings! So, I guess I'm gonna throw a top end/cam on it and look for a cheap dry kit to help it out a lil bit more!!!

Well I couldnt get the balancer off last week, damn janky puller! So I pulled the upper off, swapped the 19lb. injectors out for a set of 24 lb. injectors. Put in my c&l mass air meter, a big ass K&N filter, a lincoln electric fan, and swapped the a9p ecu out for an a9l with a hypertech piggyback. Made a world of difference, went from having to pop the clutch to just hammering it to fry tires. Yesterday I did the 3g swap, the lincoln fan drained the old girl too much. I bought a 3g ffrom a local junk yard for $35 with exchange, and took about an hour to do. WELL WORTH IT!!!This coming week, I'm gonna swap the stock cam out for that TFS STG1 cam, swap the stock intake for a GT-40 set-up, and throwing a 65mm throttle body and spacer on. If my luck runs right, it'll get the 4:10 gears in this sunday, hopefully... Gonna try to get it around for the fall cruise in!!!

Well, I may have just added another project to the list. I was traveling out of a small town near my home, when a Cobalt SS tried to pass me. We cant have that now can we? So I downshifted into 2nd, and hammered it! I banged 3rd, then 4th and walked him pretty good. I noticed it wasnt pulling as hard as usual, and looked in my mirror and could see a lil smoke in the ss's headlights. I let out and slowed it down to see what was up. So, she's got a nasty little tick now, I think I collapsed a lifter because it will get a little quieter when it warms up, but still wont go away lol. This sucks because about 2 months ago I just did a cam and intake swap, and coulda replaced them then... But hey, atleast I killed a ricer!

NXcoupe
11-26-2009, 05:40 AM
Did you replace heads or valve springs when you put the cam in? Because just a lifter collapsing will not cause smoke out the exhaust. Could be you have a weak valve spring and maybe it crushed one of the factory valve seals if you have stock heads.

INSANEBA
11-28-2009, 04:21 PM
No and no Mike lol, I just threw it in for an extra pep til I get the new motor in. I tore it apart wednesday night and found that the buddy whom helped me do the swap never torqued the spyder that holds the lifter keepers down. Atleast thats what I think because I turned the hold down bolts out by hand. It let the #6 cyl. lifters jump outta the bore and chewed half a roller off the 2nd lifter. Since I'm a poorboy, I slapped 2 new lifters in, torqued the spyder back down and threw it back together. She's just fine, and seems to run better than before. I think it's been loose for a lil while now, I'm amazed it didnt wipe a lobe off that cam...

12-07-2009, 06:17 PM
Fix it, then break it again! I was dealing with a small coolant leak issue, when it turned into a bigger leak. The radiator is junk, the cores are coming apart and she's leaking all over the place. Lost a gallon or better in less than 2 miles. Gotta hook up with John on a stock rad for now, but gonna get an aluminum rad as soon as cash permits!

Well I lucked into a FREE set of 165r15's for my front runners. My neighbor had them on his 92 GT when he bought it and switched to 7" in the front. I bolted his wheels on it and they look soo much better. I'll have them thrown on the wheels this coming week, and round me up a set for the back, something in a 255/60/15 ish... Hopefully it gets it a lil more ground clearence, and a better stance/look too!

Thanks alot man, you'll be glad when youo do! I traded a car I had sitting for a year not running for this one, and eventhough I miss my notchback I'm glad to have this one. Santa's getting me a hood, and I'm gonna throw some paint and a wet kit on it this spring. Probably gonna keep it around for a while, and see just what I can make of it...:bigthumb

Well the 165r15's are on the front, and I just threw the 275/60/15 BFG DR's on it a lil bit ago. OMG those things are huge lol, I gotta do a lil wheel lip work, and gotta check the clearence on the back side after the weather clears, but they sure fill up the wheel wells nicely! Finally looks as mean as I hope it will be someday! I'm planning on throwin the hood on it tomorow, I'll post up a few pics after I'm done...

Man, mine has been sitting for almost two years now. Slowly...very slowly piecing it together. I have been feeling pretty froggy here lately though, finally picked up a bumper cover and fender that I needed. Just need paint and a stock 302 rebuild and a few small things to get her on the road. What kind of hood did you get?

INSANEBA
12-29-2009, 03:41 AM
My baby bought me a 3" Cobra R hood for it. It was exactly what I wanted for it. I think it's gonna go with the GT body perfect...

Should look good, I believe the one I got was a 2 1/2" Cobra R...picked that up from Mike at Dayton Performance last year sometime. It would look good on yours, it's already red lol. Good luck on the build and if you need any stock parts...minus a radiator...I have a few things from the wrecked donor car I won't need.

INSANEBA
12-29-2009, 12:29 PM
Since you mentioned it lol, I am looking for a clean set of fenders and maybe a bumper cover for a 91-93 gt. My fenders need replaced, but not sure on the bumper cover yet. Gonna do that before I shoot it black this spring...

Well, the hoods on and all I can say is this lil car looks like a mean mofo lol. Seriously, it looks like a true drag car now! I gotta do a little fit and finish on the hood, but looks pretty nice, especially with the huge meats outback now! I'll get pics tomorow in the light, Oh and I also got my white hurst shift knob on too! I dunno why, but I was more excited about that thing than anything else lol... White face gauges and heater face will be here by next week, so I'll be doing gauges and fabbing up a stainless rad hold down next week too... I'l post pics as I go along.

Can't help you out too much on the bumper cover and fenders...i just picked a bumper cover and pass. side fender up for mine last week. i do know a guy that has a complete doghouse, original fenders and bumper cover all bolted together, it's black and he did want like 250 for it.

Thanks for the compliments! I do love the look myself, I was in town yesterday and stopped by Latamuds and picked up his fender lip roller. I'm gonna trim the lips down to 3/8's, and roll em so I dont have any problems. I also picked up a radiator and an extra fan while in town, so she'll be back on the road this week! I cant wait either lol! Did you buy the new black one on here that was trimmed for an intercooler? I was trying to get it, but he wouldnt respond to any pm's or posts. I'll have to hold off on the whole dog house right now, good deal but goin on a cruise in 4 weeks, and gotta pinch pennies! lol..

Well I used Bart's (latamud) fender lip roller on my car lastnight, and I must say that is one saweet ass tool! I tapped in the inner tub right infront of the shock mount, and slapped the wheels back on. I set it on the ground, and it is way better. But theres still rubbing, if I hit a minor bump, or the car twist's it rubs pretty good, Is my car too low or are these tires just the wrong size? I'm starting to wonder...

01-13-2010, 03:18 PM
Well I'm spring shopping right now, but in the mean time I'm yanking the heater control and gauge cluster and doing the white face gauge kits. I bought the Whiteface.com kits, I used them on my dodge ram and loved them, so I figured I'd try em again lol. I'll post pics as I go...

motox159
01-28-2010, 09:36 PM
So does this mean your keepin the cover you have on there? Can't wait to see it when it's done. Any "special effects" going into the paint? Or you going solid with it?

INSANEBA
01-28-2010, 11:32 PM
Yep, stockers are staying, just gonna throw a fender on it and do a lil tear down for him as soon as I get back. Probably door pins too while I'm at it. Not sure on the specialties, I want to so I'm gonna chat with Plated about it when I get back... You know I'll keep you posted...

INSANEBA
02-10-2010, 10:42 AM
Well the more I think on it, I think I should hold off on paint til I get the big jobs done on it. I'm doing a new motor this summer and would hate to think of scratching or denting it up from that. So I'm ordering some suspension parts, a dope kit, and a lil patch work as far as the body goes. I ordered a cobra grill insert, 2 fenders, a set of coilovers, and got a axle to swap in with 4:10's. So I'm gonna get to work and see how I am on cash when I'm done, might still go to plated...

motox159
02-11-2010, 09:21 PM
I'm going to be lucky to get mine painted by summer. Decided to go another way with the motor too. This time next year...prolly still sitting on blocks lol

INSANEBA
02-15-2010, 11:45 AM
Well I'm doing the axle swap in 2-3 weeks, because I'm so damn busy lately lol. But I also went to gearheadz sunday and picked up a lil wet kit for it too! Gonna hook it up and see just how fast we can get her going...

INSANEBA
02-22-2010, 03:15 PM
Well the next 2 chapters in this build thread are going to be suspension/rear axle and a wet kit installations. Look for updates and pics soon, I just ordered a UPR Pro Drag spring kit with the air bag, solid control arms, and strange externally adjustable shocks today. Well with all the bike stuff goin on lately, havent had much time to work on the gt. So I set a date for yesterday to work on getting that 4:10 axle and springs in it. I got the axle swapped, the rear springs in, the air bag and line ran, and a new feed line for the dope ran from the trunk to the engine bay. While I was in there I swapped out the speedo gear and did an oil change. OMG those gears made a world of difference, as did the rear springs!!!

03-21-2010, 08:24 PM
You make better progress than I do fella! Once again I'm put on hold. Gotta get rid of my Ranger for a baby hauler lol. But I did pick up a cheap 1970 F100 shortbed this week. That's gonna be my beater, rat rod ride for a while. If I only had my own garage....
