Well, remember that red coupe with a white hood and a white fender with bogarts on it sitting collecting dust in the corner at my shop/house/oldshop? Well it is not collecting dust anymore! It is currently out getting a 25.5c cage put in it, along with the old KBrown subrames taken out and new through the floor units installed with the cage. Cage is a full chrome moly unit. Old mild steel cage was cut out by Predator. Also getting the trunk floor repaired, new chute mount, and the inner fender finally welded in.
Isn't that a race car tucked in the last bay? lol. And a pic of the r/s car with the bubbling/cracking hood.

Transmission is a C4 Mighty Might 2 from Dynamic Transmissions. Torque converter is a TTC unit from the same place. The trans is really heavy duty with lots of billet and custom parts inside it and a pro tree brake. It also has a deep aluminum pan and a JW SFI bellhousing. I have a winter's shifter and cable, and going to use the Dynamic billet button assembly for the trans brake.
I am having a custom made driveshaft built for it to handle the power this beast is going to make.

The rear end is an 8.8, but I am toying with putting a 9" set up in it so this car can be used for 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile with a simple center section change. It has 33 spline axles, spool, cclip elims all from Moser. Has 4 lug but with 5/8" studs so they won't break. Has Aerospace rear race brakes on it and a polished MAC rear end girdle/cover. The rear bogarts are 15 X 10 with 28 X 10.5 slicks. It worked well when I used to run in renegade back in the late 90's and early 00's. Car has so far run a best of a 9.7 with only a 1.54 60 foot time all with a tremec 5 speed. My goal for the car is in the 8's with a 1.1X 60 foot.

Paint is going to be done by none other than Plated. I am letting him loose on it just like I did with the real street car. He has promised me that it will outdo that car, so I am really excited to see what he does with it. Base color is still going to be the 60's coral orange.

front suspension is from UPR, with adjustable strange front struts and rear shocks. The brakes on the front are from an old out of business company called Ground Pounder. It is a combo of several different manufacturers that gives me a 12" front brake set up for a street car. Very sweet setup. I'll get pics up of it sometime soon. Probably when it comes back from the chassis guy.
Rear suspension is also from UPR, their prokit, with an anti roll bar from them as well. All the rear torque boxes have been welded up and are reinforced with battle boxes and my own upper reinforcements.
The car has manual steering care of flaming river and manual brakes too. It has roll up windows, no a/c, no rear defog, no power locks, etc. It is a sweet car that really deserves to be finished up and I am in a position now to do it. So here goes!!!! Follow along and input is always welcome.

Ok, Matt is in Col with NMRA and Donna just left to go to her 'other' job, so hope you don't go up without calling.
Good news, the hole in the trunk floor is fixed, the hole in the trans tunnel is fixed, and the inner fender is welded in and fixed. the rest of the old roll bar is removed and now it is time to start cutting out the old subframes and the new ones put in.

Thanks man! Love your sig. I am just waiting on the guys to get them posted up. The car is in Cincy now, and the guy is taking pics of it as he is working on putting the cage in and detailing the little things. He's already patched the hole in the trunk, the trans tunnel, and the inner fender. I am going to get Matt to snap some shots of the engine, the trans and other assorted parts that are waiting to go into it.

Ok, so the car is out at the chassis shop and those that remember it, it had a bunch of stupid problems with it that just needed repaired and redone.
One of the first things was to repair the inner fender apron. I drilled out the spotwelds on the old one and the new one, and had it sitting in it to fix, but just didn't get around to it. So that's the first thing that got done to it.
NXcoupe
10-10-2009, 01:50 PM
Ok, so I put the fuel cell in the car in a hurry and it made the trunk floor look like hell, so I had him redo that and cut it out nice and put a piece of sheet metal back in it so we can cut it out nicely and mount a new fuel cell in it.
NXcoupe
10-10-2009, 01:55 PM
So he also ripped out the old Kenny Brown subframe connectors and made up a set of through the floor units to really strengthen the chassis for the power and so the new cage could tie into them.
He retained the x bracing and jacking rails I had put on it years ago and tied them into the new subframe connectors. He also retained the KB seat back bracing and welded that into the new connectors, I think it's pretty trick.
NXcoupe
10-10-2009, 01:59 PM
Here's a pic of the inside of the car, where the connector meets up with the rear factory crossbrace. He put an extra plate in there, and welded everything together with the floor. Looks pretty strong and should work out well.
NXcoupe
10-10-2009, 02:02 PM
Ok, there was some rust where we cut out the sway bar mounts, and some other places in the car as well, he is taking care of those too. Here is a pic of one of them finished up.

10-10-2009, 02:08 PM
Here are some pics I found of me out in my garage behind my house assembling my engine while smoking a cigar and probably drinking as well. Not highly recommended, but it all turned out ok, lol.
You can see the CP pistons and the dome on them, too. The titanium retainers and 10 degree locks too. I ported the heads a long time ago.
NXcoupe
10-10-2009, 02:12 PM
A few more pics of it after I got the heads on it. Those are cometic gaskets I am using. I didn't oring these heads, was trying something new, but if these don't work well, I am going to go with the new felpro's that I am using on my r/s car.

Are you going to drive that one next year and let Matt drive the R/S car again?
NXcoupe
10-13-2009, 05:34 AM
I don't know. I hope to get to make some passes in it next year, but as far as campaigning it, I am not planning on it right now. It will be legal for the class, but I want to make sure it can run the number locally before going national with it. I am just excited to see it making progress after all the time of sitting collecting dust and I guess I'll address that when it gets finished and runs with everything working correctly, lol. that's going to take some time!
NXcoupe
10-27-2009, 02:37 PM
Ok, so I just sold the 8.8 rear end out of it. I am going to a 9" from Moser. Just got off the phone with them and they said it would be an aluminum center section with through bolts, 3.50 gear, spool, brand new heavy duty 9" housing with 1/4" thick steel, rear brace, 35 spline axles gun drilled and lightening holes drilled in the flanges with 5/8" studs and nuts in a four lug pattern so my brakes and bogarts still work. About 3k worth of rear axle. But he says it will hold up to the power, so it would be worth it in piece of mind. Got to start saving up for this one. I hope to have it for when the car comes back from paint and chassis, so the engine, trans, and rear end can all go in at once.
I have just about everything for this car. It's been in the process for about 5 years now, and about time it gets done!

11-16-2009, 01:59 AM
Some more progress on the roll cage. There was a hold up waiting on bars to be sent out to me that were wrong in the kit. They arrived and he is back on it. There is no pressing need to get it done immediately, for obvious reasons, lol. So I told him to take his time and that way it gives us time to go back and forth through emails and make sure we are on the same page. I want this thing right, and I want it safe, so there is a lot of thought going into it.
NXcoupe
11-16-2009, 02:04 AM
A few more shots of the cage as it's getting tacked in. Cage has been welded on the top edge now, he finished that over the weekend, cage is chrome moly too. A lot better than the old mild steel crap I had in it before.

I got to talk to him about it before I left and while I have been over here, I get to talk to him about the progress and he keeps me in the loop, which means a ton to me.

12-18-2009, 03:11 PM
Ok, got a little more progress. He's putting the bars from the shock tower down to the front frame rail. As for the X, we are talking about maybe running that to a different location, but I'm not sure, going back and forth in emails is tough, lol. He welded in the new inner fender piece that we drilled the spot welds out of one of the cars I parted out way back when, then sandblasted it and he welded it in for me too. It's off to Plated's as soon as this cage is done.
More pics as I get them. Pretty excited to see this thing when I get home! finished or not, it's still cool to see it getting progress after all these years.

Time to resurrect this thread.... Dave and I own this car again, sold all the pushrod and automatic stuff out of it, and now have a Coyote sitting in it and a Procharger F1 on it. Got Jason Zimmers to do some slight tweaks to it here and there, and modify the intercooler to work with the routing of the tubing. I need to get a way to host pics since my DSB account is in computer geek land.
Going to stick with a manual trans, stick with a stick, lol. It has a 9" Moser complete rear set up with altered upper mounting points and aluminum center, etc. Plated laid some cool paint on it, so it looks as good as it will run. Hope to have more info and progress as time allows.
