Just like the title says. I'm picking up a 98' Mustang 3.8 auto that needs a trans. I found one on craigslist that is out of a 99' and has low miles. I need to know if they are the same trans and if everything is a direct swap.

Thanks

The easiest way I know to check is go to www.car-part.com and put in what car you have, and the site will list ALL parts that interchange with it. Heck, might even be the same trans used all the way back to '94

Plus that site is a helluva tool for finding parts... Found my 4R70W there for like $250 and had Alan at DirtyD0g Performance beef it up and install it in the Hot Rod Lincoln

I just tried that but it's only showing results for 98's only. I'm pretty sure at minimum the 96-98 auto's for the 3.8's were the same.

You're probably right, but I figured it was worth a shot.

You could always call Ford... they might be able to shed some light on that

I am pretty sure 99 is different

It will work just fine. Calibration is different, so what the 99 is better.

But everything will physically bolt up and it will run and drive fine? What do you mean by the calibration is different?

speedo calibration in the tail shaft.
