So I get a call today by a friend. He said very hurriedly, "Do you have $4500?" Of course I don't, and he exclaims, "Shit! I'll call you back in a few!" So he called me back in like 20 minutes screaming profanity. His best friend, who works at a car dealership, called him. Evidently a woman brought in a pristine 1998 Cobra Vert with 67,000 miles in for the Cash for Clunkers deal. The dude says, "Oh, not for that car... you'll do better on just trading it in."
Well, she didn't want to trade it in. She wanted to have it crushed. He offered her a good bit more in trade. Made some calls, got a few cash offers (which was what the $4500 was about). She turned down $8000 cash, because she wanted to "do her part." WTF? She actually thought she was helping the environment or the economy or some such shit by having the car crushed. She'd rather take $4500 from Joe Schmoe taxpayer than $8000 from the dude standing there.
Sometimes I wanna punch stupid people in the head.

Tell the stupid bi**h that she can buy some carbon credits with the extra money by selling it rather than crushing it.

You know what the deal was? It was probably some evil bitch that just got her husband's car in the divorce.

Probably her husbands car and she wanted to crush it over a divorce. Gotta be more to the story.

That was scary. Those posts were seconds apart. lol
I would have to hope that the dealer kept the car and sent some other car in its place. I have been around dealerships for 13 years and if there is a shady way to get around something they know how to do it.

What a f@%kin idiot. Someone should have smacked her a few times. There has been alot of dumb people bringing nice cars just for the 4500$. My own wife told me i should bring my mustang in on a the clunkers program for a newer mustang. I could have killed her after she said that.

Hey Beef by tax credit do you mean if you get a credit for buying a new car when you file taxes next year? or just with this current deal? I had heard something about this and was currious if the Jeep we bought new in April can be used as a write off...or whatever they will call it.

It sure is a shame to not know you are one of the brainwashed lemmings running around this country.

People don't surprise me much anymore and I wouldn't doubt it. These sheep tend to believe every idiot on the internet or biased media.

Does anyone know if the people that use this deal will get it stuffed up their ass at tax time next year? Will they receive a 1099 for the $4500? Will it be considered "income"?
It really wouldn't surprise me if they do.
