Strong fuel odor

I recently put 5 gallons of gas (93 octane) in the coupe for a leak check after a completely new fuel system. I found a leak or two, got them sealed, set the fuel pressure at 39 PSI and shut off the A1000. Last 2 mornings I've had a substatial fuel odor in the garage. I checked all my fittings again, no leaks anywhere, I remembered I left the vent open, so I dropped the tank and plugged up the vent tube. (I had both vent tubes plugged on both cars for the last couple years with no problems) This morning it was better, but still a noticable fuel smell, any ideas?:dunno:

I never had any odor with 2 cars in the garage for the last 4 years. :o

is the big round rubber peice in the tank where the neck goes in? i had a capri back in the day that smelled like gas all the time there was no grommet for the neck put one in smell went away some one never installed one

Yep, the Glenns tank came with a new filler neck grommet.

maybe open the garage doors and air it out then go back in and shut the door and start whiffen around the fuel system,it may just been from working on the fuel system

WHat kind of fuel lines are you running?

Did you use the black rubber lined braided steel hose for the fuel lines? I have read that most guys who use that hose complain of fuel odors in their garage if their garage is fairly air tight. Some fuel vapors will weep threw the rubber lining of the hose....not enough to drip anywhere..but you can smell it. I happened to use teflon lined braided steel hose (it was free..but a major pita to deal with the fittings) on my car's fuel system....no smells at all.

All aeroquip braided stainless, front to back.

Guess I'll be changing the braided lines this winter, I'd be afraid to run a heater in there.:o

Or put a exhaust fan in your garage somehow.

Get a roll of craft paper and lay it under the car. If it drips anywhere, you will know it. On the vent lines, make sure they are run with a loop in them. It makes it harder for fuel to evaporate from them if it has to go up, then down, then up again. Just my .02!!

just curious if you are using the same series fittings? there are AN and NAS fittings that will connect to each other, but are not interchangeable due to different flare angles. we would see it occasionaly on airplanes with small leaks and knew it as soon as we seen the fittings were different.

All the fittings are from Cincy Speed. I have check 4 times, there are zero fuel leaks anywhere. When you put your nose up to the -10 line you can smell strong fuel odor. I will be changing out to the teflon lined hoses soon.:mad:
