Ok, I have a 18v Snap-On impact wrench and the battery
just recently bit the dust.... So, I've been looking at my options
on a replacement.

#1. buy a new battery from Snap-On for $89 + $22 for an adapter since they've went to a different way of attaching the battery to the impact.

#2. buy a "rebuild" battery for $85. Same battery as I have now. It says it should last 500-800 cycles I believe... 1 year warranty.

#3. buy a $7 manual that shows how to rebuild a NiCd battery. This option almost sounds too good to be true.

If anyone has been down this road or would like to offer their .02, I would appreciate it. :D

Who makes the manual? Did they tell you what kind of supplies you need? I would assume you might have to replace the annode, cathode, and/or electrolyte.

I deal with this quite often working for Cincybell..... we typically just replace them with the newest version the rebuilt one's don't seem to hold the same charge. But $7 bucks does sound worth a shot....

Rebuilding is easy.Just have to know how to solder a little bit.And as long as you can unbolt and seperate the case that holds the batteries its even better.

Thanks everyone!

Looking for the right fix. Didn't know what kind of quality the rebuild ones would be. I'll steer clear of them.

There is a Battery Store in Harrison that is suposed to sell just the cells you can install them yourself. I have a couple batterys I need to replace or rebuild. Let me know how it goes for you

I was quoted $51+tax from the local Batteries Plus chain store to rebuild the battery pack for my POFS MAC 1/2" impact.

Crack the case open- you will find a bunch of AA-sized nicads all soldered together. Buy a bunch of nicad cells and solder them together just like the old ones. Badda bing.

I build battery packs that way all the time for model airplanes, and it is usually significantly cheaper.

If your going to rebuild the battery pack...I'd see if you can get Nickle metal hydrid cells to replace the nicad ones with. They usually hold at least 25%+ more power (mA) than the nicad cells. NiMh cells are all i'll use in my digital dive camera and strobe light setup....can't swap batteries out underwater.

Ebay it and buy a new one.
