check out these threads. it is much easier and safer to pull the head and do it the right way

i had it happen to my 00 gt about 2 years ago. on the right side third plug from the front. i fixed it with out taking the head off and havent had a problem since. i heli coil it and on the heli coil put lock tight on it also to help keep it from coming out. you can get the little kit at ky motors. and after i fixed it i let it set over night. but the right way to fix it is to take off the head

Sorry to hear it happened to you, but it's a known problem with the 4.6L heads. Looks like your now one of the statics with this issues. I hope you get it all fixed up and running soon.
Good luck,
Kyle

My 5.4 expedition did it about 3yrs ago and i fixed it myself with the helicoil kit and it has been fine for 50,000 miles. I have the kit if you would like to borrow it.Also my 96 4.6 mustang did the same thing and i fixed it the same way.No probs.
