After reading a few disaster stories when it comes to cars with high dollar modifications and regular insurance companies, I think I am ready to start looking for more specialized insurance that will pay an agreed upon value in the event that my car is wrecked or stolen. I've just spent too much money and put too much effort into the stang to let it all go to waste if someone jacks my car or I get into some kind of accident.
I know some of you have as much money in your cars as I do if not a lot more in some cases I am sure. Who do you go through to insure your stangs? Am I in for sticker shock? Any tips of who is better to work with and go through? Right now I pay ~ $315/6 months for my Mustang for my coverage through Geico with no mention to them of any of the mods done to the car. I unfortunately do not have a garage to park it in but will probably find a storage place for winter from here on out and WILL have a garage when I move to a new place sometime next year.

Is it a daily driver?
I have Cincinnati Insurnace and carry Exhibition Auto Insurnace on mine. You can get the car appraised and insure it for any amount, up to the appraised amount. You must keep it in a garage (Which I know you cant right now.), drive less than 5000 miles a year, can not drive it to work or the mall, must be out only for joy riding, car shows, etc... I think I pay around $200 a year for my SSP being insured at $6000. Have not done it on my '94 yet, I am having too much fun driving it now.

Forgot to add that, the car was a DD up till Last winter and has 48.5k on the odometer. Now the car will see 3,000-5,000 a year MAX. I do drive the car to work on nice days with no chance of rain from time to time but it is mostly a weekend car now. I will drive it mostly to Cruises and run it at the track from time to time.

Cars are meant to be enjoyed and driven, Just get you a rider on your regular insc. and be done with it. No you can't drive it here you can't drive it there. F' that!:bigthumb

Don't ask your P&C agent for a "rider." Riders are not available on P&C policies. You need an endorsement. I'd be leary about going to Geico with a question like that. You need to find a local agent that understands your needs, and let him do the shopping with some of insurers he's authorized with.

Good advice Adam. Do you know any good agents in the area?

Mine is through Perish Heacock. I pay $250 a year for 1000 miles.I believe they have it at 17,000 value right now. They have pictures and documentation about everything on my car. It is called a pro street car on the policy. They cover me everywhere but the race track. http://www.heacockclassic.com/site/

Looks like Heacock requires me to be over 30.

Well, I know I can get a Rider or specialized policy that is ACV or replacement with a list of documented mods and a appraisal attached and I can drive it anywhere I want. Just my 2c

I got my 6 month renewal notice from Geico so I went ahead and called Grundy for a Quote. I currently pay $767/6months for Coverage for both the F150 and Mustang so $1534 a year. For $60,000 agreed upon coverage for the Mustang I will pay $873 per year. That will drop my Geico rate for the F150 to $540/6 months so I will pay $1974 a year for car/ truck insurance.
It's a rate increase for but I know for sure I will be covered if the worst happens to my car. I came up with $60,000 by added up my invoices at DP and then adding a ballpark of other mods I have purchased outside of the shop, plus adding the price of what it would cost to buy a used 05 in in good condition with close to the same miles.
