I think there has been the rumors of the twin turbod v6 instead of the v8. hopefully that dont happen.

I thought it might also be the twin turbo eco tech or something, but heck if I know. I hope they dont make them all IRS, but do you know how cool it would be to have an IRS SRA option? Only dreams....Ide say most likely is another (excuse me-->) stupid 4.6, or the badass coyote. Anyone know if the coyot' is aluminum? I thought I heard it was.

2011 Mustang To Get 5.0 V8 Engine
Posted on January 20th, 2009 by Brent Wilson and viewed 6,934 times

Ford really has a hard time keeping secrets. It was just yesterday we posted up a poll asking you what the big surprise was that Ford was going to reveal about the Mustang later this year and now it seems like we have that answer. According to PickUpTrucks.com the 2011 Mustang will get the same engine as the 2011 Ford F150, a 5.0 V8 dubbed ‘Coyote’. The V8 will put out 400HP in the F150, which we can only assume will be the same in the Mustang. If not exactly, it will be very close. This is great news for those of us that shook our heads at the 2010 Mustang’s lack of horsepower change over the 2009 model.

There's also rumor of a turbo V6, for the economic version, probably aimed at 300+hp.

im hoping for the 5.0 the just 6.2 seems like overkill to get 400+ to me..... the base model is the one with the v6 turbo if what i hear is true. if thats true the base mustang and the gt wouldnt be bad buys at all. if they bring the 5.0 into the mix i hope it is the aluminum block.

6.2L SVT? 550+hp? :D

Exactly. :bigthumb

I think a twin turbo V6 option would be killer. As long as the bottom end is strong enough to handle a "mild" increase in boost.

so they are going with a 6.2 in the svt? thats not going to be the engine in the gt's just the svt's? i hope they do the 5.0 in the gt and then the 6.2 in the svt.... that would be killer

I don't know about the 6.2L, but I do know about the 5.0L.

I was just commenting that a SVT 6.2L with 550hp, ~700tq would be insane. Since they aren't making the GT anymore... they might as well go all out.

They may call it a 5.0, But it WILL NEVER BE A TRUE 5.0 !!!

I know a few guys who work at Ford in MI, and they confirmed that a modular 5.0 is coming back. One said it will come with factory headers instead of a cast manifold. From what they said about it, sounds pretty bad ass!! 400-425hp range.

The 6.2 is slated for the F150 SVT Raptor. Haven't heard anything about for the Mustang. They could go with the 6.2 or they could supercharge the 5.0 and it would still be a sickengly fast car.

The V6 I've been hearing will be the 3.7 not the 3.5 Ecoboost that earlier rumors were touting. The 3.5 with turbo is on the SHO.

Aaron your own 5.0 badges are wrong. A 302 is a 4.99 liter. A 305 is a 5.0. I know you are jealous of us mod guys but, we still like you.

Ok, and how do you propose to do this w/o running the price up or killing sales volume?
Less amenities?
Weaken/flexify the platform?
Make it a 2 seater?
Do away with the government mandated crash bullshit?
Remove sound dampening material?

All of these would certainly cause a huge uproar and a drop in sales.
I have said it time and time again, the hardcore enthusiasts account for only a small portion of the sales. These cars have to appeal to the masses that buy the majority of the cars... and they want NAV, leather, a quiet/tight cabin, 45 airbags, automatic ball scratchers and the works. It sucks for the hardcore guys, but at least the Stang doesn't weigh what a bloated Challenger weighs.

I am waiting for official word on the TT Mustang before we pull the trigger on the BMW 135i.
Getting tired of waiting frankly. The 135i is a blast!

If it's the same setup in the taurus SHO, which I would think it is, it can handle about 500 crank.

Even for the non-hardcore buyer, a Stang that weighed 3200 lbs. is going to get better gas mileage. That could be done with an aluminum block, a lighter (it doesn't have to be weaker K-member) and a twin-turbo V-6 (yeah it works for Porsche and BMW). Just look how much bigger the body of the 05 and newer Stang is compared to the New Edge. The GT gained almost 300 lbs. on the 05 and the GT-500 weighs 300 lbs. more than the Terminator did (and think what it would have weighed if it had the IRS!). The current Z06 has a big honkin V-8 and it still gets 28 MPG on the road at 75 MPH-- but it weighs 3119 lbs. (at least that it was my bone stock Z weighs). A Mustang GT that got 30 MPG and 350 HP would sell like hotcakes. Easily done.

Are you not familiar with the current GT? It already has an aluminum block and the k member is very light. The only way to reduce the current cars weight is to make the unibody lighter and/or smaller.

From what I've been reading Ford is looking at using lighter weight materials in an effort to meet the stricter CAFE standards coming in 2016. Not to mention a redesign in 2014.

The Mustang GT isnt all that bad compared to the Camaro and Challenger in the weight class, it just doesnt have the power to compare to those two but hopefully that'll be fixed with the 4 valve 5.0 DOHC. Then those 2 cars will once again be behind Mustang, because hopefully Ford will find a way(as they always do) to keep it cheaper, yet have just as much power if not more on a smaller motor with less weight and more exterior appeal.

I was waiting for your comparison of a $75k SPORTS CAR (2009 Z06 MSRP base price) to a $27k (2009 Mustang GT MSRP base price) Mustang. I knew you would throw that out there, all vette owners do.
The vette is a pure sports car, not a pony car.

You miss the point. There is no substitute for lightness.

No, I understand your point.
It just seems you are missing mine.
Cracker boxing the size of the Mustang (to make it lighter) will NOT sell in large volumes.

I disagree, but it is academic, since it won't be getting smaller or lighter.

I'm hoping that a 6 speed will be an option for the GT's along with the 5.0. The 5.0 will bring a little more weight because of the extra 8 valves, 8 springs, 8 followers, 2 cams, ect, but will more than make up for it in power. I could get 27-28mpg on the highway with the Viper spec 6 speed and 4.30 gears in my 05 all day long so you don't necessarily have to get a lot lighter to still get better mileage.

As far has having an Ecoboost v6 or the 6.2, I haven't heard anything about that happening, but I have heard quite a few rumors about the GT500 getting an aluminum block for the 2011 model. I don't know what the chances of that are, but FRPP coming out with the wet sump 5.4 aluminum block doesn't hurt the chances.
