Unsure where to post this so here goes. We have a two car size garage door, insulated, with a Craftsman 1/2 horse opener. The problem is that when the door is closing, about midway along the first panel it acts like it catches itself and then goes back up. Usually if I am fast enough with the remote I can stop it, then start and it will close all right. This has gotten progressively worse over the past year. It would start doing it initially when the weather would get cooler. Not so much when it was warm out. Now it will do it no matter what the temperature is outside. Oh, and it does not do it all of the time but it is happening now on a more regular basis. A guy at work says that he thinks that the rollers on the first panel have too much play or wear to them. Any thoughts from you guys on the problem?

It sounds like you have either have 1 or more rollers binding, Or the track could be a little out of whack causing it to bind up ...
Also is your opener chain or gear drive ??? There could be something on the chain or drive causing it to bind...
I would lower the door to where it normally catches and check everything out while it's at that position ...

I hope this helps !!!

Thanks Aaron, I will check it out. BTW it is chain driven if that makes a difference. It is always something.

i had this problem when i lived in florida. it ended up being the little camera deal that is at the bottom of the track. the things that sense if something was in the way and wouldnt let the door close all the way. just adjust them if you have them.
