What's the combo?

What's the combo?

A4 blocked 347, Victor Jr. heads ported by TEA, F cam, Super Vic intake, Bosch 160s, a pair of old school 67mm Precision turbos (will be changing those out for VS Racing's version of the S366), Holley Dominator ECU, Neal Chance TH400 with his converter too. My plan is to start out on pump gas and meth and then switch over to E85 once I have the tune sorted fairly well. I have a flex fuel sensor that will allow the Holley to change the tune whether I'm running pump gas, E50, E85, etc.

Good luck w the build!
Thanks, I won't be making your power lol but hoping it runs pretty well. :bigthumb

Looking GREAT!! :cool1:

So a stock tank, with twin pumps? Im looking forward to the fab work!
Thanks Craig! I'll be posting pics, it looks cool in my head so we'll see. lol

The engine in my coupe is very similar and it's pretty quick. Maybe I should do some turbos... hmmm. Lol. Killer setup you got bud. Hope to see it out!

Being a guy who was in his 20's in the late 80's, I always (and still do) favored the hatchback to the notch. And that Forest green (for no better term) was my favorite color. Back then if you owned a notch LX 5.0 over a hatchback LX 5.0 or GT it was because the dealer offered you a deal too good to pass up and there were no hatchbacks left. Look forward to seeing the finished product this season. :bigthumb

I'm from the same era so I've always favored the GT/Hatch as well. Green isn't my favorite color but I've somehow ended up with about 5 different green cars through the years, including my current daily. That being said, I really like this green, it looked good with the silver lower from the factory but I wanted something a little different so I changed it to a Lightning dark grey, it turned out better than I had thought it would IMO. Hoping to have it out fairly soon. :bigthumb

Thanks Brian. The wheels are old Mickey Ts, 15x12 with either a 6.5 or 7.5 BS, not sure honestly as I bought them a long ass time ago and my memory sucks.

Been working on modifying my fuel tank to accept my 450 and 525 Walbro pumps, wasn't sure how I has going to get them hung but after I cut a hole cut in the tank I was able to see where everything needed to be and came up with a plan to use my Pro-M hanger. I'm working on it tonight and will take more pics of how I'm mounting the pump to the hanger, etc., stay tuned. Don't roast me too bad as I'm doing all of this with very basic hand tools as I don't have access to proper tools at the moment. lol

Starting point.

Had to ditch my original plan tonight, I played around with it all night and finally decided I'm going to change it up just a little bit. I should be able to get it done tomorrow and if it goes well I'll get some pics and post them up. :bigthumb

You have coil overs also? Curious how you have your shock bar mounted and being able to use a stock tank.

I had originally built this to have a fuel cell and another cell for the intercooler, back when I thought I wanted to go radial racing SMH, you can still see the framing for them, we kept all that in there and was able to get the stock tank to work.

Here's a pic from the top side prior to the floor being put in, you can get an idea of what we did, I have coil over shocks but my springs are in the stock location, well kinda lol, I'll post several pics here so hopefully you can see how everything is mounted. Sorry about the glare in this first pic.

From bottom after floor was put in. You can see one of the U brackets with the factory type strap attached.

OK, after a few failed attempts I think I may have something that is at least a workable solution for now. I'm pretty sure I'll be changing a few things with this next winter or even later this summer as I'm not crazy with how it's turning out (seeing it differently in my head) but it keeps me moving forward and able to get this bitch running. I will post more pics of it when I get it completely finished.

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/47814474371_c7c660cda1_z.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/2fRcFpa)

Shot of how the pumps sit in the well through the fill hole, hard to see I know but it's the best I could do. I left the spacing tabs on the bottom of the hanger brackets to be sure they wouldn't be sucked up against the bottom of the tank. The gasket for the lid is 1/8" thick so I don't think that would've been a problem anyway but never hurts to make sure.

Still working on it, got most of the fuel system knocked out now, plumbed the cooling system, and have started on some of the wiring, things are taking longer than I had hoped but still moving forward. Have a couple of hurdles that I just found to get over but I have a plan for them. :bigthumb

This is what I came up with for the fuel pumps hanger, took way longer to complete than what I want to admit but should it do the job for me.

Thanks Brian, I have more work in it than I probably should at this point and if I had it to do all over again it'd be a bit different but it is what it is at this point and should do fine for what I'm doing.

Monthly update: Still making slow progress whenever I get a chance, fuel system is ran and tested for leaks, got the flex fuel sensor in and wired, I've started the wiring process for the whole car as I had ripped out the original harness long ago (I've since put a modified factory harness back in ), all the lights, power windows, etc. are working again so now I'm wiring the ECU, fuel pumps, fans, and so on, I still have a ways to go before starting but we are getting there, there's a lot of "little" stuff that's more time consuming than anything else so I've made a list and just try to knock out one thing on the list each time I get to hit the garage. Nothing picture-worthy for this update but maybe I'll have something on the next one. :bigthumb

Not really an update but thought it was pretty cool anyways so decided to throw it in here, I was going through some boxes last night that I had pretty much forgotten I even had and came across this gem, it's actually still in really good shape.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48792696041_b824ea081a_z.jpg

Pic from that event, the car was a ton of fun to drive at this point, spent many many crazy nights in Middletucky, Columbus, and Dayton areas racing the skreets and just doing typical low rent hoodrat type shit. Had my very basic 357 with out of the box Vic Jr. heads, Trick Flow intake, and a custom hydro roller cam spec'd by Keith Craft (who built the engine), also had an NX Shark single nozzle wet kit on it. It was running 11.60s NA here (hot as fook that day lol), I had dialed it in to the 11.80s range and spent the day pacing guys to the stripe, redlit the final  ,but, had a killer time, Craig put on an awesome event! The car typically ran high 11.40s to low .50s NA at this point and ran anywhere from 10.70s to 9.80s depending on how much I was spraying :D I never even so much as nipped a plug with it in this config, the car was just dead nuts reliable and I drove it any and everywhere.

Kwik92GT
10-04-2019, 08:54 AM
A LOT of fun Brian! The fast part and all the associated saftey, maintenance, etc. is part of it but the biggest part, for me anyway, was just biting off way more than I could chew and then changing my mind several times during this process. I was talking to Rick the other day about wondering where this thing would be had I just put it back together with my original mods and went on upgrading year to year from that point? I had my 393 shortblock from BES done, my heads had been ported by TEA, etc., all I needed to do was throw it together with the Spyder intake and put the nitrous plate on it vs the single nozzle. It is what it is at this point though so onward and upward. LOL

Thanks on that hatch latch, apppreciate it. :bigthumb

Update time. Been getting a lot done, I had a good bit more to do than I realized but I'm making real good headway. It was looking like I was going to be able to do the first startup this coming weekend but that's not going to happen so my goal is to do the first start on Memorial weekend. I'm going to try and take more pictures and get them posted as I get stuff completed.

This is a quick pic I took of the mounting and wiring of the Leash dual relay board onto my Contour fan setup. I wanted to mount it on the bottom part of the shroud but after some more thought I decided to mount it up top so I can better see the fuses in case I'm having issues on the road. It's not as clean as I'd like but should still do the job.

Never mind about the photo, appears I can't link photos here anymore so this will probably be my last update.

Gotta give big props to Rick for all his help, especially over the past few weeks. He's put in a ton of time, blood, sweat, and tears. He also now has a better understanding of my frustrations with this build , but, it's onward and upward from here. Hoping to be on the road at some point next month, could happen sooner but I need to generate some cash flow so I need to start selling some of these extra parts I've got laying around.

No passes yet. Still have a bit of work left to do so I can drive it. I'm hoping I can make it to the track at least once before the cold stuff gets here. Really hoping to get back on the DD list for the first time in a very long time.

Yeah, this got me last year. All loaded up in the parking lot of the shop at 7 am and find out it's a prepay rental. Disappointing. But I'm signed up this year!

Yep, should be ready to rock in the Spring, just have a ton of little things to button up and then should be good to go. Biggest things are getting my driveshaft cut and the brakes done.

Who is going to do your driveshaft? Ive used B&T shaft in Milford a few times and they did really good for me.

I was planning on having Dayton Clutch and Joint cut the one I have down, I'll probably go with a Strange at some point.

Got a ton of little stuff to tie up and then the rear brakes, after that it should at least be driveable which is the goal for now, hoping I can sneak a trip or two to the track before the season is done,

Pretty much, I need to get the rear brakes situation sorted, driveshaft shortened, new harnesses and that should be about it for things I need to buy to get it driving, still have some wiring to finish, get shifter mounted, put the new rear uppers in, etc..

I may need to get a set of the rear hatch plastics from you if you have any, I just need the side ones that go over the wheel tubs, I'm going to look at the ones I've modified and if I don't like how they look in there I'll be hitting you up.

You still have my '64 Fairalne??

draggin50

Still have the Fairlane sitting back there. Havent done much to it lately.

I think I have a set of plastics out there. Just let me know and Ill get them to ya.

Rick is a huge piece to this puzzle coming together, he has given up a few weekends the past couple of months to help me get this thing roadworthy, can't thank him enough. His car is coming along too so keep an eye out, there might be a chance both cars will be out at the same place at the same time for the first time in a VERY long time this Summer.

I'm finishing it up in the evenings. I changed damn near everything like an idiot. New turbo kit isn't quite done but it's close! Pretty sure I'm just going to cruise it for the remainder of the season and put the new mill in come spring time, with some twins.

Oh man do I hear that  I've learned the hard way, multiple times, that changing too much on a project at once doesn't always end well...

I concur lol

Looking back, had I not tried to have everything "just so" I could have been out having fun with it YEARS ago. I finally quit with that attitude and went with "just get it running/driving" and amazingly it started actually coming together, who knew?
