You also bought 1,529,635,000 rounds of ammunition in just the month of December 2008. Yeah that is right, that is Billion with a “B”.
This is an evaluation of overall firearms and ammunition purchases based on low end numbers per Federal NIC instacheck data base Statistics (http://www.fbi.gov/hq/cjisd/nics.htm). The numbers presented are only PART of the overall numbers of arms and ammunition that have been sold. The actual numbers are much higher.

If the laws were enforced and the bad guys kept in prison there entire sentence gun crime and general crime rate would go way down!! There is an underlying something going on... could it be people not working and under educated?

Only problem Pops is the taxpayers don't like spending money to build jails or prisons. Everybody wants to "lock 'em up and throw away the key", but no one wants to pay for it. The voters of Hamilton County, as you will recall, voted down the levy to build a new jail.

Mandatory sentences for crimes involving the use of firearms hasn't had much effect simply because the morons who commit these crimes simply are not generally known for weighing the possible consequences of their actions as most people do. Put more simply, these sociopaths generally don't even consider getting caught or spending time in prison. The impulse control just isn't there.

I will gladly spend my tax dollars on new jails. But I will not gladly spend my tax dollars, on cable TV, weight rooms, college educations, etc. etc. etc. that we supply for the people in jail.

The necessities only should be provided. And those in jail should have to work. I am all for that.
Many jails are working with humane societies having inmates train dogs that are to be adopted. I am a huge proponent of this program and others like it.

I am all for new jails... Personally plain simple places would be best. Let them out early if they earn a degree and can support themselves. Otherwise keep them away from me.

Contra Costa County, California can now claim a leadership position of dubious repute, as they are the first to admit that shrinking budgets translate into less resources available to prosecute criminal offenders. In March 17, 2009 presentation before county board of supervisors over a proposed budget cut:
District Attorney Robert Kochly (http://www.co.contra-costa.ca.us/index.asp?NID=203) told the Board of Supervisors that the Recommended Budget would allow for only “core” misdemeanors to be prosecuted and stated that 45% of misdemeanors that would normally be prosecuted would no longer be reviewed or filed. [Emphasis added]
