shed and deck building tips?

Anybody have some nice websites on how to build a deck and shed from scratch? We are going to be building ours hopefully in the next couple of weeks so I need to start planning now. Want to do a nice 10X10 shed or so and a good sized deck with overhang roof. Need to know what is used and roughly how much I will need of everything.

Nope. All the neighbors have them so we r good to go.

check out some local shed builders and see what they have in stock, maybe talk to a few of the neighbors. nice to be able to actually look at one and see if it is going to work for you and if you may need to change something before you build. there is a guy at 71/73 that has a ton of different sheds setup (60-75) ranging from small 8x8 to over 20x20. you can look around and find bracket kits that would save you a bunch of time when you are ready to build.

thanks for the insight guys. Can't wait to get started on this. We are going to measure out exactly what we need room wise and I guess figure out how much wood will actually be needed. Got a rock drive to do first though.

We just had our 10x10 deck expanded to 20x14. It was much needed and I was going to do it myself. But we ended up having someone do it, instead. Watching him made me glad I did not do it.

I am currently trying to start building some storage shelves in the basement, but the drill was dead. So it's charging.

Built my first shed last year (12 X 12), just went to Lowe's/Home Depot and looked at the different styles I liked. Took some measurements from their sheds and built my own floor/walls/trusses, not too bad, just beefed up the design a little bit to suit my needs.

Thats a pretty good idea actually. We might have to do that and see hows its all put together. Thanks for the idea.

If you figure up your cost on the shed, you maybe able to buy more shed building it to your specs rather a "shed kit"

Making something square up in the air can be quite a challenge.

It's great. The 10x10 really only allowed my wife and I to enjoy the deck. But with the expansion we had about 20 or so people out there comfortably.

As a suggestion, for your top rail make it at least 6" wide so people can put drinks and plates on it.

looking pretty good. if we do a 2nd level like we want we will do the wider rail. our deck will be right off the ground so we won't have the railing all around it.

They sell plans for standard sheds at lowes/home depot also. If you find one you like, I think the plans are only $10-15

One tip - trim the bushes around your deck, it will make it appear much larger. :bigthumb
