Every time i see drifting, and every time i see people rag on it, i think to myself "this is just some crap we've done out on back roads for years, they just gave it a name". I don't see what the big deal is. Looks like fun to me

Sure its fun, but to make "sport" out of it? I always thought drifting was your last ditch attempt to stay on course when you f*cked up a turn. None the less, seems like a great way to trash a set of tire real quick.

The way i see it is it's sort of the opposite spectrum of road racing that drag racing is. With drag racing you've got the straight aways and people who are into road racing might say "oh well drag racing is just going in a straight line, and it's stupid because real racing requires turning and stopping". With drifting you have the extreme corning that you may have in road racing if you push a turn too hard or you take a corner too quick and have to drift. Each "sport", drag racing and drifting take away a particular part of "auto racing" and narrow it down to just that single aspect of driving. To some people, racing means covering the 1/4 mile in as fast as possible. To other people, racing means shaving a few tenths off your fastest time around a road course and braking late and overtaking the car in front of you on the inside. To others it means all that, only doing it with the car on the bleeding edge of control and trying for as much style as you can get.

All you guys who hate it, are you telling me you've never taken your car out to an empty parking lot and ripped a bunch of figure 8's? Well, that's drifting
