How about choose the right lug nuts.

The parts counter person sold the owner the wrong lug nuts that he picked up for his autox wheels.

By making sure the wheels were tight and torqued.
Shit falls off of cars all the time due to thrashing on them to get them ready to race, and forgetting to do things like tightening wheels...I've seen it happen to professional race teams.

If they fell off because they were the wrong lug nuts, then whomever installed the wheels has no business wrenching on anything. Being able to tell if a lug nut fits or not is remedial stuff. Don't blame it on the friggin parts guy.

Read an article in car craft years ago. They took that yellow chevelle road racing. They had to tighten the lug nuts after every heat. They just come loose.
