I've got access to a '69 mexican 302. It's a 2 barrel motor, and it's 100% all stock from a truck down to the 6 quart pan. My question is, what is it worth and what are they going for?

It's definitely a mexican block, it says "Hencho en Mexico" in the lifter valley and has the two nubs on the front of the block.

I sold my Mexican block for $400, but it had a good 4.030 bore, had been notched for stroker clearance, and was ready to assemble. My block also had milodon main caps, and was drilled and tapped for 1/2" head bolts, which I would recommend anyone do with a 500+ hp mexi-block. Mexican blocks are great for 5-600 hp cars, they may take more, but you just never know how much more.

That's all this one is. Bone stock just pulled from a truck and sat.

i dont know if there is a difference, but this one is out of a 76 cobra. have you looked at the main caps yet?

the old truck pan isnt even off it yet.

It has the round nubs cast into it on either side of the timing cover, and it says made in mexico in the lifter valley. It's definitely a Mexican block

when you get the pan see if the main caps are thicker than normal, sounds like a good find to me

nickel makes the block stronger, I've heard many people refer to it as "the re-cast 289 Hi-Po"

Which I have one of those in the garage as well :D

It's actually IN my dad's '65 Ford Fairlane 500 Sports Coupe. it is The real deal. Thick harmonic balancer, heads, everything. I've got 3 289's in the garage and was hoping to get those hi-po heads from 1992mustangdw a while back to put on top of one of them.

As for my dad's car

I drove it to the Fall cruise at QS&L last year. I can't access photobucket at work or I'd post a pic of it. The car just turned 80K just recently. It is a TRUE K-code, 4-speed, non-post car. He's had it since about '80-'81

I just sat back and thought about it... I have 3 289 blocks, 2 302 blocks, a 351 block, a 429 block and a 460 block.... And those are just the ones not in a car!

I'm a little confused on this subject...There's a double double going on here.

1) aren't Mexican blocks sought after because they didn't slim down the material when they cast them? Or in other words because they're stronger, right?

2) Isn't that the exact same reason someone would want an older '60s 302? Because that's back before their castings went on a diet?

So my question is, being both a 60s block AND a Mexican block, does it matter that it's a Mexican block or not? Wouldn't you want an '85+ Mexican block that has the beefiness and a roller cam?

Yes to 1 and 2. But the Mexican blocks had much beefier main caps, almost identical to 289 HIPO caps. Also, Mexicans were never cast as roller cam blocks. I think the last production year for the Mexican block was late 1997/early 1998. They are generally 8-10 lbs heavier than a late model thinwall roller block casting due to the extra material in them.

they had higher nickle content, so added strength was inherant. No matter the years. Hence the desire.

So even if you found an '85 Mustang from Mexico, it wouldn't be a Mexican roller block? They're ALL flat tappets?

Correct, but they were only found in trucks/vans.

OK that makes sense since not all 302s after '85 were rollers. Thanks :D

Scott, this one is for you... This is my Dad's 289 Hi-Po in his '65 Fairlane, of course after I uploaded the pic I noticed I couldn't see the balancer. But it is a TRUE 289 Hi-Po. This particular engine had a cast iron 4-barrel intake that says COBRA on the front right by the thermostat housing, and it was on the car when he got it. Dad replaced the dual-points dist. in it back in the day because it was harder to tune. And he also shoved Hooker headers from a '65 mustang between the shock towers, which is a TIGHT fit. So tight it doesnt have a motor mount bolt on one side. The motor torques that direction anyway  and with the tight fit, it isn't going ANYWHERE, at all. Of course It's not the black and gold like they came in the bigger cars like itself, it's dressed up just a little :D
