Well if you have seen my car in the projects section you know I am yanking the motor out. The engine bay is cleaning up nice, but some areas are going to need a little touch up with a spray can. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what sanding process they use. I have searched on the web and everything I found was from a company trying to sell you stuff.

Thanks.

Wow, thats one hell of a tear down for just a engine bay spray!! lol

I just used 400 grit for any surface rust and then 800 grit after that. Then I used a self etching primer, paint, and clear and it turned out great!

clean clean clean!!! use red scotch brite (400 grit) but first get a wax and gease remover and clean the shit out of it,and like he stated use a light coat of primer then scotchbrite it again, paint 1 tacky coat let stand 20 min then a couple medium wet coats allow to flash then put a nice even wet coat, let it dry for a coupe hrs then get ya some clearcoat and clear right over the color, the clear will make it clean up easier over the yrs and makes the paint alot more shiny and durable, take an air blow gun and blow the dust off before primer and before paint/clear and get a tack cloth and get the left over dust off prior to paint, and get us some pics when your done.use laquar paint if your gonna clearcoat, you can't clearcoat over enamel it will lift and wrinkle up on ya

I had a little more rust than yours but after I fixed all that, I just sanded it down, primered it, then spray painted it. That was the easy part of my project.
