Can anyone recommend a good shop in the Dayton / Cincinnati area to balance, blueprint, and bore .30 over. I am looking at just pulling my 94 vert block and having it done will doing the HCI swap.
I was looking at a place called George's Speed Shop in Dayton, OH...If anyone knows about them.

Thanks for all the replies. I am just waiting for my ebay auction on my 92 LX to end to see which way I want to go.
I did call George and he quoted me $1855 for a "built" 306 small block using all forged internals. This is re-using my block. I thought this seemed a little high based on DSS pricing, in which you get a new "stronger" block.
Thoughts?

DSS blocks are no stronger than a stock block. The stock blocks fail in the webbing area its a rip off. Its kind of like the valley girdle deal it does nothing to stop the block from breaking. If you want a stronger block buy an R or Dart or the new boss block.

you could get it stroked out for a few more hundred bones ... i've had my 331 since 2003, no issues at all ... you could call dave at midwest crankshaft (513) 563-4560, he built mine ... he's great if you can get it back by 2010 :lol:
not sure how fast you're looking to go, but there are re-man 302's in the MMFF mags for $699 ... just a thought ... get on car-part.com and pull a low mileage explorer motor ... cheap!

I have a roller 306 with less than 10k for sale. It needs a set of valve springs.
It comes with
Roush 200 heads
KB pop up pistons 10.4 to 1 comp ratio heads milled to 61cc
E303 cam
Arp head,rod,main,cam bolts
Mildon oil pan
Harland sharp roller rockers.
Custom length Crane one piece push rods
Balanced/ Blue printed
Clevitte bearings
900.00 for the long block
The springs/retainers would cost you 300 to 400
I goofed and grabbed the wrongs heads. I thought i got the ones with rhyd roller springs. I did not and got the ones for hyd flat tappet. I was messing around with rev limiter and and set it to high. A couple springs broke. No damage to motor.
I also have March pulleys and brackets. Crane Box/coil, MSd Billet dizzy,
another 300.00 and you can have all that as well
I don't need it. I hate to see it sit there and go to waste....
It would cost you close to 5k to do all this....
4k just for the long block...

Do you know what they are reffering to with their "Level 10" and "Level 20" block?

Give Dayton Performance a call. They can build what ever you want and they are a supporter of this site.
I believe the level 10 and level 20 DSS blocks use CNC machining, but in the end you are still using a factory casting. To the best of my knowledge machine work on factory blocks is not the problem but rather the lack of material in the block which allows it to flex and distort.
