Wanted to see what you guys thought about this, this is an email I got from Tony down at Edgewater

Terry,
I am the one that works at the track and drives the 02 bischoff 427 vette.

Here's an idea for you to think about. Friday nights is our tune and test night. A lot of mustangs and ricers come on that night. Most of them have no idea what they are doing. Here is what I propose. If someone in you forum would organize a group of guys to come down on Friday night, I could get you in as a group at a reduced price.

Then you could run your cars from 5pm to 8pm, at which time we could prep the track and then have a gambler's race, with dial ins and the works. If you all agreed to kick in a certain amount of money we could distribute it to the winners (first and second place) Maybe even a little for the fastest car, and the one with the best reaction time. We could do this exclusively for your group. I'd like to keep it simple, all cars in one grouping, but if you thought it was necessary we could break them up into box/no box, or fast/slow etc.

Prior to racing, I would be happy to talk to the driver and give them some pointers on what and what not to do. I could even make up a fact sheet for them. I think this could be a fun thing to do.

Last year I tried doing this with a bunch of high school kids that hang out in the shopping center parking lots until the cops run them off. It never worked out because they couldn't get organized.

Someone in your group will have to put it together, and I will make all the arrangements at edgewater. If it works, this could be a boost to your organization, and to edgewater. I see it as a win/win situation. And if it does work, we could do it several times throughout the year. You could also incorporate a car show with it.

Let me know what you think.

Tony Geers

Wondering if you guys would be game for this, definately sounds like fun and would be kinda cool I think! Would be fun for those that have raced before and those that are not that experienced and have wanted to go.

The nice thing is I know we have wanted to have a track day but it's tough to get $$ together for a private rental. This way we still have a little thing of our own but it only costs us prob $10 a piece to race, maybe $20 if we wanna throw $10 in the pot for a winner.

Thoughts???

I'd come out assuming my car is still running!

I've never raced before, so I'm one of those that could use some pointers myself.

First I gotta get it track ready though....helmet and a battery cut-off and I should be set.

I would be down with the stinkin linkin as long as its in a few weeks, i still have several things including the 5 speed swap before it makes its track debut lol. I liked the talks about something around the 4th, no official sbz events then as it stands, and i dont think any the current posted cruises too close to then either.

I'm down for this. A gamblers race outside of the money is bracket racing.

So for those that havent raced "on a track" are there any rules or saftey things we need to do? I saw someone say something about a cut off switch etc??

you need a cut off switch if you locate the battery to the rear of the car. As far as safety just check over your car for any leaks or problems. If you blow up on the track or spill something you tend to piss off a lot of people who have to wait for clean up. A helmet is only needed when you go 11.9 or faster I believe but its not a bad idea to use one if you have one. If you feel the car getting loose or anything get off the gas. No sense in clipping the wall just to see if your car can hit the 12s. If your on regular tires avoid the water box and burn out. You can lower your pressure some to hook a little better. Main thing is to have fun though and try to beat your previous time every time.

Kewl that's exactly what I needed my battery is in the normal spot so I'm good and I don't think there's any chance my fairly stock 5.0 is going to break into the 11's so my hard melon will have to suffice for now lol. So for street tires no water box and no burn out I was so looking forward to it though..... and I agree I would like to make sure I can drive my car to work on monday. I'd like to think I wouldnt be the only one out there on streets and a fairly stock car I'm sure it'll be a blast....... Thanks for the tips
