F the michigan mayor and his over paid auto unions up there...they built the next they lay in....wonder how much the floor sweeper inside a GM building makes a year....I'm guessing $40-$50K per year...

I have a friend that works for Ford and he use to laugh about how much money he made for what he did. He told me the most physical thing he ever did at work was mop a floor once when he spilt his coffee (and he was serious).

It's interesting how the first replier sets the tone for the rest of the thread. The others tend to jump onto that bandwagon.

I know 90lb girls straight out of high school that were getting paid over $27 an hour at the Sharonville plant. Obviously no physical labor involved. They would always take one class at some school every semester, they way it wasn't possible (practically) for them to be fired no matter how shitty a job they did. A union at it's finest.

I'll change the tone and say I agree 100% with the Mayor... At least they UAW is something that represents companies that make something versus the BILLIONS that Wall Street recieved (under the Bush administration) that do nothing but take money from the working class !!!!!

Just my $.02

My dad worked at the Batavia plant and said a bunch of the guys would go hit the bar at lunch time. He said they would come back half lit for the rest of the day:lol:

I don't know enough about wallstreet to make an educated statement about it. I will say that it's my belief, that the labor unions have run the wages so high that its impossible for the U.S. to be competitive in a global economy. Corporate tax rates being so high only contribute to all our jobs being shipped over seas. If you were a business owner and could escape the horrific taxes, you'd do the same thing. If you need proof, just think back to the last time you filed your taxes, most likely you filed long form. Even the average joe is looking for a break on his taxes, and more than likely your not making billions.
I can understand bailing out the auto industry just because of the sheer amount of jobs that are related to the auto industry. On the other hand, if they were to have to file bankruptcy, all contracts would go out the window and they could renegotiate wages/benefits and possibly make them profitable again. I don't see how giving them billions of dollars would do anything to help them in the long term.

I used to work for GM, and I always heard stories of how cushy a job it was. For some people, maybe it was. But were I worked, we were always on the go, and had managers always around to make sure production was up. There can't be that many people sitting around, because they make alot of cars.

May have been quite a while ago, it is nothing like that now. Slowly things are changing.....just look at the quality Ford is putting out these days....better than Toyota and Honda!
