5.0 combo's
Just wondering what some naturally aspirated stock piston.block combo's have put down, Track times and dyno numbers, Goin to go with the h/c/i this year on my stock block mustang just wondering what hp trq numbers i will be lookin at . Also if you have some nitrous pulls also on some h/c/i cars post that up.
Just lookin to see what parts seem to put down best numbers.. So far i have heard trickflow makes the best head for a stock block stock pistons..
I'd like to be at the 300 mark on motor or a bit over... What has everyone put down???
Post up the numbers boys !! Whats everyone opinion on best heads for stock piston block with out havin to deal with clearence problems??

I made 250hp 300tq stock shortblock gt40P heads, explorer intake, full exhaust, at the wheels. Same topend on a built 310 shortblock with same stock cam made 300hp 350tq at the wheels and ran high 11's N/A
Lots of power in lighter weight pistons compression and a few cubic inches. Any decent heads cam and intake you should make over 300 and run high 11's

damn, i never thought id have that much power when i get done with mine. i have gt40p's, exlporer upper and lower, full roller set up, forged rods, might have it bored over 30 (buying the block today) and an x cam, high flow oil pump, and im wanting to buy more so any guesses as to where ill be number wise or time wise?

x cam is to big to make good power, look at an E cam or F. The x cam will prolly fit but I would choose a diffrent cam

everyone on here told me to go with the x cam, i was looking at the f cam but was told to go all out and buy the x

Use a standard volume standard pressure oil pump not a high flow oil pump. Good rings and look at piston weights if you are buying new ones. Keep the piston weight down and the rod weight down. The lighter weight rotating assembly frees up power and the engine can accelerate faster.

I ended up with Timido's old car with the exact same combo still in it. I ran it in UMTR Street Stick last season. It made 291hp to the wheels and went 11.88 @ 112mph. The guy who bought it off me is putting a decent cam in it with a few updates and I think the car should see low 11's this coming season. I cant wait to see that car back out, I'm sure I'll miss it. :(

so i wasted my money with a high flow oil pump? i have lightweight forged rods from scat and im looking at pistons online, i just dont kno if i should go with forged or hypereutectic pistons. the forged pistons i was looking at weigh 608g. the rings i am looking into are from summit part # ZR990330 (Sealed Power) and the head gaskets im looking at are Cometic, part # C5511-040

Way back in '01 I had a stock shortblock h/c/i combo in my coupe. It used a set of ported gt40p's/explorer intake w/ ported lower/mild custom HR cam (close to a F cam), 65mm tb/76mm mas/1 5/8" lt's/3550 5 sp/4.30 gears/28x9" slicks at the track. It put down 296rwhp/322rwtq on the dyno N/A. At ~3200# race weight it ran a best of 12.19 at 110 n/a and 10.98 at 126 on a 200 shot. Was a fun street motor setup.

I use a stock oil pump in my 9 second 408. I dont know for sure if the high volume pump causes problems or if it robs power or is just not needed. I wouldnt waste the money on the Cometic's Felpro stock replacments work great for me and they can handle some serious power. 8548pt2 gaskets . If you are not running a whole lot of nitrous or forced induction I would get the lightest piston that is reasonable priced. Forged pistons are what everyone wants to buy but I know people who made a Lot of power with hypereutectic pistons. My old 310 motor had custom ross pistons that were around 400 grams. Compare the piston pin weights also. I know it sounds alittle picky but these little things really make a big difference. Good ring seal and good engine ballance make power also.

i already have the oil pump, the head gaskets i was still a little iffy about and i have a set of trw L2482 pistons i got from steves lx that he gave me with a block i bought off of him today. i cleaned them up a little and i think im going to use them. i tried looking them up and summit has something that matches the part number but looks a little different then mine. i need to figure out what size rings i need still.

That's what i was afraid of, but mine seems to run pretty good. I know the cam has more potential than i'm using it for, and i know another cam like maybe a Trick Flow stage 1 would be a better option, but i wouldn't say it's TOO big. I just need to be able to run higher RPM than i do...if you take the stock block and put ARP rod bolts in it and freshen it up so it'll run at least 6500, you'll get more out of an X than i would.
Here's my car in a nutshell:
Original unrebuilt '85 302, gobs of miles
'69 351W heads, ported and polished with 1.94/1.60 valves
Holly 650DP 4V carburetor w/mechanical secondaries
Wieand Stealth intake
X303 cam
MAC Full Length Headers
Dr. Gas offroad X pipe
Magnaflow cat-back
Tremec 3550 five speed transmission
Pro 5.0 Power Tower shifter
FRPP King Cobra clutch
FRPP billet flywheel
FRPP aluminum adj. quadrant
FRPP aluminum drive shaft
FRPP subframe connectors
FRPP A/C delete kit/short belt
K+N air filter (actually no filter at all at the moment)
Taylor Spiro-Pro 8mm sparkplug wires
Malory Comp 9000 distributor
3G alternator
Optima Yellow Top battery
Lincoln Mark VIII electric fan
Eibach Pro Kit springs w/ Energy Suspension spring isolators
3.73 gears
Dry weight without driver = 2880lbs
My best time was on BFG drag radials, one of them is totally bald from a busted traction lock and it spun like crazy off the line launching at 3k and slipping the clutch, and still spun 2nd. I think on slicks with a solid hook it'll go mid 12s easy...with some control arms and no front swaybar it might go 12.20s or so.

I would look into the pump a little. I have never run a High Volume pump but I have heard storys of engines sucking the pan dry when all the oil is pushed to the top end. I have also heard they are not needed and just rob horsepower.

how hard was it to do the a/c delete? im going to get one for my car when it comes time to put it in but i still need to get a new body so it will be a while lol

even with a 7 quart pan? im hoping thats not true cause idk if i can send this back lol also would a crank scraper help this issue any?
Timido

The 7 quart pan and crank scraper are great for making power so is a windage tray. I dont know for sure about the HV pumps I only know what my engine builder tells me to use and thats a standard volume oil pump. Thats why I said I would look into it An oil pump is not that easy to change once in the car and I would watch your oil pressure with either pump.

ok thanks, i need to find someone thats used a hv pump before.... kinda sucks cause i was thinking it would be best for my engine considering the stock engine had spun bearings due to lack of oil i think

I'm with Tim on this one...I have always ran stock pressure/volume pumps.

ok im confused how come some gt40's are around 300 rwhp and some only are around 260 ??? i see the alum heads like trickflow edelbrock etc are all around 300 or more, i know alum heads flow and transfer heat a lot better .

its all a matter of matching parts.. the intake is too small for heads.. doesnt matter what heads you put on ect. Stock out of box gt40 irons on a stock block (not factory stock stuff, super lightweight everything ect) with a gt40 intake will put about 260 out. Now ported and properly matched.. with porper cam ect i've seen some gt40 combos make that. Ported gt40's can flow with out of box aftermarkets.

what size inj were you runnin ? would 24's be big enough or should i go with 30's ? I plan to run one dry and one wet kit prolly 100 in both , maybe 125 or 150 in wet. wit ha 255 pump

I ran 30# injectors with a 200 wet shot from a NOS gt40 bigshot plate. I'd run at least 30# or 36#'s with a dry kit. 255 should be enough fuel pump.
