Aparently the 4.6 is going bye bye and an all new (uh....all new or just bored out 4.6?) 5.0 DOHC V8 will take its place in 2011.

Would be nice to see a 400/400 rated motor in the stock gt.

This is strangely echoing the early '70s...some of the meanest Mustang of the time came out, and then everything fell to crap because of the EPA. With CAFE creeping up on us...could this be round 2?

I still think it looks a lot like the GM LS1 motors. NOw if they could just put the mustang on a diet we would really have something.

I had this very conversation with a friend last nite. Lets just hope we dont have to see another Mustang 2. That car looked like a pinto if ya ask me.

True, only with a few more valves ;)

It's a funny thing about Ford...they really don't give a damn about what the competition is doing. They're fine not getting caught up in the horsepower wars. We all know Ford could make a 500hp all motor engine, they just couldn't make it affordable.

I really wish they'd have made that BOSS 351 V10 Mustang a reality...that thing made 500hp/500tq all motor and even passed emissions (and it wasn't just a Triton V10). That would be sooo badass in an R model or even the GT500. They have a history of making amazing engines like the Cammer 5.0 and never putting them into anything production.

i think i might be one of only a couple people on here that openly love the mustang II's...i wouldnt mind seeing one come out similar, especially for the "fuel concious" people who want a mustang...

The II served its purpose....it kept the Mustang alive when Ford could've just gave it the axe. Plus look at the era it lived in...the '70s. We're actually lucky it didn't end up a huge boat like some other cars were. I don't care for the II's in stock form but with some nice wheels and the right stance they can look pretty badass.

I always kind of like the II's. Of course my first car was a 78 mustang II. Like has already been said, they served their purpose and got us thru until the fox body arrived.

It should be a nice little motor for sure. From what I've gathered the block has longer sleeves to accomodate the longer stroke and the bore is slightly larger at 3.65" as well. Direct injection and improved VCT is on its way as well.

Nice looking motor. Would look even better with a whipple or kenne bell on top.

The REAL killer of that era of cars was insurance rates in my opinion.
When people start killing themselves and other motorists in these high horsepower production cars on a larger scale, we won't be able to afford to insure them anymore. Look at what we pay for a full coverage policy with a reasonable deductible on an average car ($1,868 annual average in 2007). For most, even a marginal increase of this premium would be enough to alter someones buying decision when factoring in the monthly car payment as well.

I think engine technology is amazing these days!
When I think back to the horsepower numbers on my 84 GT......175HP/245TQ

Same thing I've always said.

I'll be glad to see a 5.0 with 400/400 +...I wonder what that means for the production of the special Stangs.

I ordered a 2010 about 3 weeks ago, but now I may have to change my plans...

actually the 5.0 was supposed to be the stock motor in the 2010 gt

rick at livernois said they had 6 2010's with the 5.0 at their shop for testing,

too many problems at that time on the motor and had to 86 it for 10
