I'd love a ford, and the 10' taurus looks ok, but it's not rwd but i'm really diggin the looks of the g8gt, and with 362hp, and a 1/4 of 13.8 it's no slouch, with my vette owner loyalty and employee pricing, i can pick up an 09 with a sticker of 33200 for 26k

we also just took an an 06 300 srt8, gunmetal grey, same color i like in the g8, it has nav and a rear dvd also though, msrp was originally 42k or so i think, 425hp and rated at 13.2 1/4 mile, it has nav and dvd as well. i drove it earlier and that 6.1 is fast as hell

the pontiac is rated at 5mpg better though, at this level, who cares though,

here is a pic of a silver srt8
http://images.safeform.com/stock/300/CHRYSLER/300/2006/4SA%20C%20SRT8.JPG

and a g8
http://www.intense-racing.com/images/g8gt/g8gt_1_640.jpg

of course i'd definately tint the windows

i gotta think that with a tune the g8 would be close in performance to the srt8, the downside to the srt8 we have is it's out of factory warranty

input, opinions?

Yup Yup! Got me one of those! ;)

But I think it's a lifetime warranty for as long as I own the car (tranny/motor, if I remember correctly).

overpriced imo,

i think the us auto's are really good these days, i was hoping ford would make their new rwd sedan, but it doesn't look like it's gonna happen

i think the g8 is actually kinda bmw'ish looking anyway

I am pretty sure those warranties don't apply to SRT vehicles. When I bought my SRT4 they offered their 3/36 bumper to bumper and 7/70 powertrain warranty on all cars except SRT vehicles which only had the normal 3/36 warranty.

I like both of them you may also want to look at the Cadillac CTS or STS. Hell I have seen brand new STS offered for $30K (about $15K off sticker). If get a certified one you get a 100K bumper to bumper warranty. I think the STS-V is way cooler than either. Their lousy resale makes them a bargain too.

I agree. I have driven all of them and the caddy wraps them both together. Lots of power and every option you could want. You could also drop back a year or two and get the caddy xlr. ( hard top convertable.) I think they even had a 6 speed tranny.

300 for sure. 426 stroker and a rear mount turbo and you'll be whippin the Vette:bigthumb

Even without all that I'd go for the 300.

01-14-2009, 06:52 PM
The 300 is a very well built car. I think Daimler had their hands in the design process. I LOVE working on those cars...super easy. They ride nice, handle good, I don't think they have the shitty brake problems the fwd cars do either. The G8 is ghey, they should have stuck with the GTO. I don't know why so many people hated on that car.

You think?
I saw a G8 and a 335 parked next to one another the other day and other than the G8 being larger, you can definately tell GM ripped off the styling cues of the 335.

Throw out practicallity and go for a new Challenger SRT8. Hemi, 6 speed, a tune and say bye bye vettes. Heck, MD could do it in one day for you. Maybe a little out of the price range but the cool factor makes up for it. Throw some sand bags in the trunk and you would be good to go in snow.

I wouldn't buy a Chrysler now...I doubt they will survive without merging with someone.
The 300 looks like a poor mans Bentley, and the G8 is a rip off of the 335... I just don't care for rip off designs, but hey Beef, it's your money, drive em both and buy the one YOU like. :bigthumb

I concur with the BMW suggestion. Comparing a Pontiac G8 (a good car) or a Chrysler 300 (junk) to a BMW is laughable really. The Caddy though, that's in the same league. Only problem with the BMWs is big power costs big money. You can get HP cheap with the domestics. I guess the way you blow through cars though, you'll never notice a big difference in quality. They are all nice and tight for the first 50K. I've driven BMWs with 300K on them and they were still very nice cars to drive. I can't think of ANY Pontiac or Chrysler that'd still be on the road, let alone still be fun to drive at 300K+ miles. (cue the "I've got an 88 t/a with 300K on it" comment)

well, you know i won't have it for more than a year or 2 and i'm not looking to spend big $$

the srt8 challenger is like 45k, i can get an auto r/t challenger for around 31k, i peeked at them last night, they are good looking as hell, but shit, 14.1 in the 1/4 with all the hp, that really sucks, might as well buy a v6 with the 2800 package and have all the goodies and wheels like an r/t for 25k,

if i go 2 door, i'd do a mustang, maybe a bullitt, i still love that highland green

i'm really thinkin 4 door though just because, the vette is making bout 600 rwhp, i really don't need another sports car, of course who wouldn't love to have a vette and a charger or a vette and a stang

i'm thinkin i really want something with a 4 door, the reason i was considering new on the g8 is i'm like 7500 off with my gm price and owner loyalty and stuff, i can pick up a 33200 g8 for 26k, i sold my buddy one, and it's a very nice car, md is actually getting ready to do headers and a tune,

of course for 21k or so i can get the 300 that stickered at around 43k or so with all the options, ken said tune and cai and he can put 380 rwhp on that or a charger srt8, the interior is pretty sweet, it has the nav and the dvd already, doesn't need anything wheels are all in great shape, i actually really like the wheels and it's a tungsten grey type color which i love

of course surfing ebay last night i found a couple of left over 07 saleen f150's that looked pretty bad ass too lol

G8 are just like the GTO's. They are a Holden car with different bumper covers and lights. The G8 was to be the next GTO but Pontiac decided to go with the letter and number naming scheme. G5, G6, G8.....

The G8 GT is no slouch and the V6 motors in the STS are wonderful engines. Direct Injection, Variable valve timming, 300Hp and 11.3 high compression and still run on 87 octane whats not to like about that. It's the same motor that they are putting into the base LT Camaro and in there.

Never have liked the 300's much and someone is sporting one around where I live with a grille that resembles the British Union Jack. One Ugly car!!

I'm not sure which one I would pick. I've driven a 300 SRT8 and a Jeep SRT 8 before. They are both nice cars. The Jeep was pretty wicked off the line. The Srt8 handle pretty good for a large car. 26K on the Pontiac is a killer deal on a brand new car with a 362HP V8 and I've seen post of people pulling mid 13's out of them stock. Anyway you already know what it takes to get the LSX motor going so that right there is nothing new to you. I know the SRT-8 are putting down around 360-370whp stock and they bit quicker than the G8 and like the G8 it can be modified easily. I'd be happy with either as a DD.:bigthumb

BTW are they coming out with a Ford Taurus SHO again? I keep reading rumors about a turbocharged 4wd 6 cylinder.

The thing about the G8... the value will drop like a sack of dicks. Just look how cheap you can get a GTO for.

The SRT-8 on the other hand, pretty rare car, and I don't believe its still being produced (I could be wrong). Plus, you being you, I'm sure you got a great deal on it, and eventually you'll sell it and make a buck or two.

yes, but now i've got a 42k ride for 22k, (put a 2 year bumper to bumper on it) vs the 33k ride for 27k

2 years old is a great way to buy as the big hit has already been taken, unless your on a focus or something i try to steer people towards used, at least if you trade every 2 or 3 years, if you hold onto your stuff, new is fine

vehicles always depreciate, they are depreciating assets,

also, i bought the 06 at clean black book, trade in value is over 24k and used retail is almost 28k

I'm a believer. Look at the STS-V. The sticker on a new one is about $80K and you can pick up a really nice used one with 20K miles on it for $30-35K. If it happens to be a CPO car then the warranty is bumper to bumper, 6 years or 100K miles from the original inservice date. That is a hell of a deal if you ask me.

I also have 3 more doors if you count the hatch...... (Escape exits for when it catches on fire and burns to the ground.)

Which i might add that the hatch has no lock hole on it so if your battery dies or all the buttons on your driver door quit working (like mine), How the hell are you going to get anything you need out of the back with ease?????????
