Too bad we do not implement the law many third world countries have. If you are caught stealing something, they remove your hands. I'd bet that cut robberies by 95%!

That sucks. Does the owner of the storage place cover break in's? Make a list. Maybe your home owner's insurance could cover some of it. It is your property and you were paying for the storage unit right? Just a thought.

That sucks man. From what you told me, someone sure got some nice parts. Hopefully some sort of action can be taken to re-emburse you for them at the very least.

That sucks this is one reason why I have the security system I do. I have a monitored security system as well as a DVR closed circuit video camera system on my garage and my house. So if someone breaks into my shit the cops are coming and I can make them a copy of the tape as well. I think I have less than $250.00 in my 4 video cameras and my DVR setup which records to an off site server so that someone cant just break in and steal my computer and get away if the cops didnt catch them. If you want some info on it let me know I can also set it up to be able to monitor my house and garage through my IP address and check it out from anywhere. The best part is it is all wireless.

IR aimed shotguns would be better :)

Remote trigger action?

Paul, if you've read some of the stories on yellowbullet.com about stuff getting stolen, it is better to be paranoid!

The night view option on my cameras works perfect also. I can see everything at night and its crystal clear.

You should see if you can obtain a manifest of what all was taken from the other units. If it was stupid bull shit that was taken, than you can decide if the other units were hit as a decoy, or legitimately.

This is the exact reason I have my garage wired up now. It's also the reason I bought a new 40, and sleep on 2 fully loaded clips. Everybody knows I've threatened to shoot through a wall if I need to do so. I hope everything works out for oyu, but dont hold your breath on the cops. They are only capable of writing it all down on paper, and hoping to catch them in an accidental "meeting". Pm me a few details of what was taken, I surf all the craigslist and stang sites around the tri state area. I'll let you know if I see something, and maybe even help you arrange a meeting with the @ssholes... You know, so you can nicely "talk" about it...

If all you people with high dollar cars, tools and parts don't have a setup like this or better, you are asking to have stuff stolen. Word gets out, what you have, where it is, when you will be gone- there are too many low life MFs out there.

I like to do the cameras hardwired. Since you are running power to the camera anyways, it's just one more Cat6 cable. No interference or connection issues, hacking issues, etc.

You can get cameras in B&W, color, infrared, all with various lens types and focal lengths, pan tilt and zoom, on and on. That's the toughest part IMO, choosing which camera will work best in a particular spot. Best to make a few cameras real obvious, and a few that are basically hidden.

I'm not saying exactly what I have, but it's enough.

Keep your eyes peeled on ebay. When my garage was broken into and my parts were stolen, my wheels showed up on ebay and that's how the theif ended up getting caught. Worst feeling I've ever had man.

Hey post up a few of the higher dollar items in this thread so fellow bangers can keep an eye out. Just a description or identifying features :cool2:

I travel throughout the country and never pass a pawn shop/flea market without stopping in (I am in ST. Paul today and have visited 4 this week) and I lurk on most every automotive website east of the rockies- it passes lonely nights in hotel rooms without chaffing:D

I myself don't find cameras that comforting. The guy you will record breaking in is of average build, 18-30, and average height. He may have a 5 oclock shadow and will limit your suspect search down to about 50 million dudes as well as every other stangbanger. Unless his crackhead buddies turn him in or his prints are in the system you still only have the satisfaction of being able to forever watch on video him cleaning you out. A close friend had 8 motorcycles stolen out of his garage and they caught the assclown after the fact from his prints, but you cant squeeze blood from a turnip. He gets a monthly repayment check of $88.00.

My motto: "the insurance check will dry my tears." It is the only way to get restitution (often times better than what was taken) and avoid prison time/digging holes in the yard at midnight.

Good luck.

I got the Police report done on tuesday evening.Out of a 60 unit storage there where only 4 that where not broke in to.The only reason my parts where in storage is alot of people come to my house and buy parts. The parts where Tremec tko-500 and Edelbrock victor jr heads and a bunch of smaller stuff that was all together and boxed up.I will not be using storage any longer as it can not be wired up.

How did they end up getting in each unit? Just bolt cutters for the locks? The last time I got a storage unit they wanted to sell me their own lock and I turned them down, bought the largest lock that would fit instead. I'm still baffled about it, that's a lot of storage units to get into and nobody notice, or nothing caught on film.

I had a bad ass master lock on mine and they tore the whole locking system off the door getting the lock off.But most of the other units look to have cheaper locks on them and just poped them off

That sucks man. Have you looked into having one of the pods set on your property? They look pretty heavy duty, and atleast it would be close to the house.

Mista Bone
01-07-2009, 02:29 PM
rather than a "PODS" looking into a ISO shipping container.

You could take a 20 ft unit and bury it into the side of a hill, would be a storage unit/tornado shelter.

sucks man. hope it all works out for you. should home owners or renters insurance cover it?

Mista Bone

Only if you have renters insurance on the storage unit.

Mine costs about an extra $10 a month.

I have seen those Pods. They are plastic or fiberglass. Not metal.

ABF freight offers mobile pods that are just pint sized Ocean containers. Pretty strong, All steel with Heavy Oak floors, though they may not be cost effective for your application.

that really sucks. i have had to chase people away a few times. i live in rural indiana, and meth heads are everywhere. i went as far as to pad lock, deadbolt and regular lock the doors on my garage and installed 1" steel bars on the windows and on the entry door. i ordered a whole security kit from a ditributor i know personally. if you are interested in getting a setup, pm me and i will send ya his catalog.

Not covered under any insurance? Are you serious? Retain a lawyer and revisit your storage owner see what he says. lol
