Saw this today and thought that I would pass it along: http://videogames.yahoo.com/feature/microsoft-faces-new-xbox-360-reliability-accusations/1274293

That's old news, but still applicable. Never move a 360 while it's spinning a DVD, it's mentioned in the user manual, that nobody reads. I love the "it would only have cost 50 cents more blah blah". OK, 0.50 times how many units? That's millions of dollars.

Yeah, my son's 360 was spinning when he was playing a game he had just gotten 2 hours prior, when the dog came by and knocked over the console. It scaped a decent sized gouge all the way around the surface of the disc..enough that the console couldn't read it. He FREAKED!!
I went and bought a Disc Dr. for $25, I had to run it through twice but it fixed it right up! Definately paid for itself.

Btw...
I get so sick of people filing these dumb ass lawsuits over shit that 99% of people know as common sense.

Hmm lets move the XBOX while it's functioning.
Kind of like backing out of the garage with the door down.

What were you thinking?

I guess a laptop has to remain perfectly still while in operation then too.

And a Hummer is built for off road use. Is a VW Beetle?

but can still be damaged by using it in motion.
Anything that uses a non solid state memory device can have problems with vibrations.

I've got 2 friends with xbox problems. Both are from the red ring of death. I wouldn't waste 50 bucks on a xbox.

The newer 360s have lower power consumption, and a better heatsink setup. I wouldn't worry too much about gettting a new one. The older ones were just not cooled enough. My launch day box lasted 3 years. It got the red ring of death. I took it apart, and for some unknown reason, it's completely broken now ?? Fortunately I had a second one already. I hope it hold out more than 3 years. It definately runs cooler than the original one did.

My son's Xbox is still running fine...3 years now. I just make sure to clean the dust out of it often, and make certain there is nothing blocking any of the air flow in and out of it.

Ditto here. Make sure it's well ventilated and no overheat problems.

...you all made me so paranoid that I went and bought him an intercooler that has a temp switch on it , and has it's own power source, so it turns on and off by itself. It does a tremendous job in aiding the factory fans. CLICK HERE (http://www.nyko.com//store/ProductDetail.aspx?i=143)
It's pretty slick.

The intercooler works great! Another thing you can go is if you have a game you are going to play alot, you can load the game to the hard drive and play it from there. You still have to have the game in the tray but it doesn't spin it. The temp difference is remarkable. Also don't put it on or close by any other componets that make alot of heat like a AV reciever. Keeping it cool keeps the red ring of death away!
